As expected, OPPO has launched its new R7 Series of smartphones – the 6-inch OPPO R7 Plus and 5-inch OPPO R7 Lite. The phones will be available for pre-order from Sunday, 11 July 2015 and will officially hit stores in August.
OPPO Malaysia CEO William Fang said in his opening keynote that OPPO listens to customers’ needs and requirements in a smartphone, and the two new devices were developed to meet various market demands. He reiterated that what OPPO promises, OPPO delivers.
In just one year, OPPO has grabbed 10% of the Malaysian smartphone marketshare, making it one of the top three smartphone brands in the country.
Both the R7 Plus and R7 Lite are beautifully carved devices, featuring a full metal unibody with chamfered edges. The R7 Plus proudly measures just 7.75mm thin despite its 6-inch frame, while its smaller sibling measures 6.3mm thin.
The R7 Plus gets a 6-inch Full HD AMOLED display pushing out over 445PPI and features on-screen navigation keys. The R7 Lite on the other hand packs a 5-inch Full HD AMOLED display and features soft touch Back, Home and Menu keys.
Both are powered by the 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chip. The R7 Plus and R7 Lite get 3GB RAM and 2GB RAM respectively.
The R7 Series duo sport impressive camera optics – 13MP rear camera with a f/2.2 lens coupled with a Samsung ISOCELL CMOS image sensor. The front gets a 8MP unit. What’s really cool is the new dual-drive hybrid focus system that includes laser focus, anti-shake optimisation, Contrast Phase Autofocus and new Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF). Never mind the jargon. All it means is rapid launch, fast focus and stable, sharp images.
The R7 Plus packs a huge 4,100mAh battery while the R7 Lite gets 2,320mAh. Both feature the famed VOOC Flash Charging system, the fastest rapid charging technology available today. In just 30 minutes, you can get your R7 up to 75% charge.
Both devices run the latest ColorOS 2.1 on top of Android 5.0 Lollipop. ColorOS 2.1 is much improved with enhanced features and user interface and performance.
With the introduction of the R7 Lite, it is expected that OPPO will drop the price of the mid-range OPPO R1x which is now a more expensive, and a less value buy.
