As observed, the SKMM smartphone rebate offer did do well, but you said it yourself — it was paired with DiGi pre-paid plans, so there is an element of partnership with an established telco, with distribution channels in place. My arguments are based on the fact that there isn’t a lot of information forthcoming, so it remains to be seen as to whether it would be a success. It could be, but until we know more, I wouldn’t bet on it.

With that said, I think there is decent market for these low end phone(i’m also wondering about the device spec wise), when it was the SKMM smartphone rebate fever, Digi was offering the Alcatel One Touch Glory 2S 4010X(gingerbread) for Rm50 with the rebate and the digi prepaid plan(although I know lots of shop were ramping up the price of the phone to rm100ish), and it was selling like fried bananas, constantly being shared/spread through facebook.
Strangely , one of the firefox test device is an alcatel device, I believe has roughly the same spec as the Alcatel One Touch Glory 2S.
I think with enough marketing(etc pairing up with local telco to give good deals) they will do fine.

I’ve owned some android device previously, it ranges from android China clones,Alcatel 2S,Alcatel 2S pro,Huawei Y300,Xperia M… but currently I’m only using a CSL java feature phone, for entertainment,chat and news the Opera Mini is decent at that, I think I would buy a firefox phone, it basically redefine the meaning of low end smartphone
