Kodak is selling 1,100 patents to stay alive

Yup, Kodak is selling around 1100 of its patents to stay afloat. This has alerted companies such as Microsoft, Google and Apple to have a slice of the patent pie. Companies like Apple will be teaming up with Microsoft and Intellectual Ventures Management LLC for one bid, Android vendors and Google are teaming up for another bid or two for their patents as well.

This happened after Kodak won a ruling in July 2, 2012 in the Bankruptcy Court to sell its 1100 patents from its Digital Capture and Kodak Imaging Systems and Services (KISS) patent portfolios.

This patent teaming and bidding also comes in an interesting time as there have been ongoing patent battles between Apple and Samsung over their products, running around the globe. This does not come as a surprise at all however, since IP and patent lawsuits are as common as apple pie. No pun intended
