Instagram, the popular social photography app for iOS and Android has overtaken Twitter in terms of daily usage for the first time.

According to comScore data, Instagram throughout August 2012 had an average of 7.3 million active daily users, compared to Twitter’s 6.9 million active daily users at the same period of time. See chart below:

 

The numbers reveals the verdict

 

Despite the fact that Twitter has around 29 million unique US smartphone-based visitors in August, and Instagram with around 22 million and below only, Instagram users spend more time (257 minutes), while Twitter users spend less time (170 minutes), viewing or accessing their respective sites. The coming months should be mighty interesting for Instagram, as the app is expected to be available for Windows Phone 8, a potentially huge, growing mobile platform.
