OnePlus 5T specs leak: The one that should have been?

OnePlus 5T unboxed

The OnePlus 5T is slated for a 16 November debut, but that hasn’t stopped ZDnet Germany from posting unboxing photos with full specs of the much-awaited device beforehand.

If you’ve seen the OPPO R11s then you would have seen the OnePlus 5T because they’re essentially the same, design-wise. The cousins share a 6-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display (1080×2160) with an 18:9 aspect ratio.

The FullView display is housed in a metal body that measures just 7.3mm thick at its thinnest point and weighs in at 162g. The edge-to-edge display has forced the fingerprint sensor to the back.

Under the hood, the OnePlus 5T shares much of its hardware specs with the old OnePlus 5. This includes the powerful Snapdragon 835 chip, coupled with either 6GB or 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM.

Storage is fast UFS 2.1-based, in either 64GB or 128GB capacity, sans any microSD expansion.

In the camera department, the OnePlus 5T ups its predecessor with a 16MP (Sony IMX398) f/1.7 main shooter, complemented by a secondary 20MP (Sony IMX376K) f/1.7 monochrome shooter. Disappointingly, again, there’s no mention of OIS or EIS for the cameras.

This defers from the dual-camera setup on the OnePlus, where the secondary camera was a telephoto.

OnePlus is touting professional depth-of-field (bokeh) photography with its dual-camera and also Clear Zoom.

The front is a 16MP f/2.0 selfie shooter.

The device gets a large 3,300mAh battery that supports DASH fast charging via USB Type-C.

The OnePlus 5T runs OxygenOS based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

In a tweet, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau remarked that despite rising cost of materials, phones are getting better. He said OnePlus users “will appreciate what’s coming” hinting that the OnePlus 5T may stick to the same price tag as its predecessor when it first launched.

The OnePlus in Malaysia sold at MYR2,388 and MYR2,688 for the 6GB RAM + 64GB storage and 8GB RAM + 128GB storage options respectively.

What do you think? Are you excited with the specs of OnePlus’ upcoming champion?
