Lenovo Legion Y920 Notebook Launch

Lenovo’s dedicated gaming sub-brand Lenovo Legion, has unleashed three new additions to its line-up. The new gaming hardware is headlined by the flagship Lenovo Legion Y920 notebook, flanked by Legion Y720 Tower and Legion Y520 Tower.

Despite the flat PC market, gaming has been a lifeline to PC makers, and in fact, a growth segment. While a relatively young brand, Lenovo Legion has already made its mark in Southeast Asia, capturing the top spot in Thailand and doing well in others.

The Legion Y720 and Y520 towers were first unveiled at gamescom 2017, meeting the demands of mainstream and casual gamers.

Let’s touch on the flagship Legion Y920 notebook first. This baby will appeal to hardcore gamers looking for a top-of-the-line portable to play the most intense of games.

The lappie is powered by a 7th Gen Intel Core i7 unlocked processor, and backed by a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 GPU (8GB). Memory is up to 64GB of DDR4 RAM, with storage options ranging from up to 512GB SSD; 1TB Dual PCIe SSD RAID0; or up to 2TB Dual SATA HDD RAID0.

It rocks dual 2W JBL Speakers complemented by a 3W Subwoofer with Dolby Home Theatre.

The display is a 17.3-inch FHD (1920×1080) IPS anti-glare unit, and it packs a 3.5-hour 6-cell 90WHr battery.

Connectivity-wise, there’s Killer Wireless-AC, Killer LAN and Bluetooth 4.1.

It boasts a full range of ports including 4x USD 3.0 with Always-on Charging, 1x USB Type-C (USB 3.1, DisplayPort, Thunderbolt), audio jack, mic jack, HDMI 2.0, RJ45, Display Port and a 6-in1 multi-format card reader.

The good-looking Y720 Tower rocks 7th Gen Intel Core i7 processing power and up to NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 8GB graphics. It’s got up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM, and 512GB SATA SSD and 2TB SATA HDD.

There’s plenty of connectivity options including 2×2 Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth 4.0, 6x USB 3.0, 4x USB 2.0, mic jack, headphone jack, HDMI, PS/2, 6x audio ports with S/PDIF and a 7-in-1 card reader.

Made for casual gamers, the Legion Y520 features the same flexible chassis that makes it easy to swap optical drives, storage or memory. The gaming tower features up to 7th Gen Intel Core i7 processors, up to NVIDIA GeForce 1060 graphics and up to 16GB DDR4 RAM. Storage includes 256GB PCIe SSD and 2TB HDD.

Connectivity options include 1×1 Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth 4.1, 4x USB 3.0, 2x USB 2.0, mic jack, headphone jack, HDMI 2.0a, and RJ45 Gigabit LAN.

All three run Windows 10 Home and come with various pre-loaded software including Lenovo Nerve Center and Lenovo ID.

Building the gaming community

Following the success of the League of Champions Series I early this year, Lenovo has announced another collaboration with Intel as main sponsors for Asian leg of Series II.

The League of Champions Series II finals will be held in Bangkok, Thailand in January 2018. Participants from Southeast Asia will be armed with Lenovo Legion hardware to battle it out on the Fields of Justice.

In its continued commitment to nurture and grow the local gaming community, Lenovo introduced new Lenovo Legion influencers. They are Tashbunny (Twitch streamer and Astro eCG Network personality); Geek Fam (Malaysia-based Dota 2 Team); and Geraldine Read (gamer and up-and-coming race car driver).

Lenovo also announced that it is the hardware provider for the Kuala Lumpur Hunters, the Malaysian League of Legends team, for the upcoming season.

The Legion Y920 notebook starts from MYR12,9999 incl. GST.

The Legion Y720 Tower retails from MYR7,799 incl. GST, while the Y520 Tower is priced from MYR4,999 incl. GST.
