New Sony E-Mount mid-telephoto lenses are absolutely bokehlicious

Sony E-mount lenses

Sony has released two bokehlicious new lenses for their E-mount interchangeable lens cameras. This includes the FE 100mm F2.8 STM GM OSS mid-telephoto prime lens – a flagship G Master Series lens, followed by the compact lightweight FE 85mm F1.8 mid-telephoto prime lines (SEL85F18).

In addition, Sony has unveiled a new powerful, compact flash (model HVL-F45RM) with radio-controlled wireless communication, perfect for Sony’s professional a7 full-frame camera line-up.

Sony E-mount SEL100F28GM

The SEL100F28GM is a specially-designed mid-telephoto, full-frame prime lens, with a unique STF (Smooth Trans Focus) design. It offers beautiful bokeh with exceptional resolution, something to be expected from Sony’s line-up of flagship G Master series lenses.

The bokehlicious capabilities are thanks to the newly designed 11-bladed aperture and unique optical apodisation lens element.

The apodisation works like a neutral density filter that increases density towards the edges of a subject. This creates a beautiful transition of in-focus to out-of-focus areas, resulting in soft, smooth bokeh. The design also ensures vignetting is kept to a minimum.

The SEL100F28GM supports both contrast AF and focal-plan phase detection AF2 for precision focusing. Additionally, it has a high-precision , quiet direct drive SSM (Super Sonic Motor) for fast and accurate AD performance.

If you’re into macro photography, the SEL100F28GM offers up to 0,25x close-up capabilities with a built-in macro switching ring.

Keeping things steady and sharp is built-in Optical SteadyShot image stabilisation. It also features a customisable focus hold button, AF/MF switch, aperture ring and it’s also dust and moisture resistant.

When it comes to ultimate performance, nothing beats a prime lens. The SEL85F18 is a lightweight, compact telephoto prime lens for APS-C or full-frame Sony cameras alike.

It boasts a wide f/1.8 aperture, giving you ultra sharp portraits with delicious bokeh.

The lens features a 9-bladed circular aperture mechanism and a double linear motor system for fast, precise, quiet focusing.

There’s a focus hold button that’s customizable and can be assigned to functions in the camera body like Eye-AF.

The lens has a smooth, responsive focus ring and AF/MF switch. Like the SEL100F28GM, it is dust and moisture resistant.

Sony HVL-F45RM flash

The new radio-strolled HVL-F45RM flash offers a compact professional solution that complements the wireless remote controller FA-WRC1M and receiver FA-WRR1.

Designed for Sony’s E-mount camera line-up including the cutting-edge full-frame a7 models, it can be used as a transmitter or receiver at up to 30m.

Its wireless range makes it ideal for creative lighting with multiple flashes. Being wireless, it does not require a line-of-sight to function, and isn’t impacted by bright sunlight.

Battery life is up to 210 bursts. It can tilt up to 150 degrees vertically, a complete 360 degrees horizontally and up to 8 degrees downward.

It features a new large, bright and highly visible LCD display, an LED light, dust and moisture resistant design. Lastly, it also has a revamped menu system that mimics ones found in Sony’s newest camera systems.
