It’s a little presumptuous, but we tend to take mobile phone security for granted. With the proliferation of mobile phones, security of your data and personal information become even more crucial. So what can you do as a smartphone user? For one, you can install security apps like F-Secure or Sophos (just to name a few) to protect your personal information. The other way is to go out and buy a secure smartphone. One like the BlackBerry DTEK50.

Introduced in July this year, the DTEK50 is “the world’s most secure smartphone.” With that claim coming from security experts BlackBerry, it isn’t a big surprise.

It’s an odd name for a phone, sure. But just so you know, the device gets its name from BlackBerry’s DTEK security software that debuted with the flagship PRIV last year.

If you’re wondering why the DTEK50 looks strikingly similar to the Alcatel Idol 4, well, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. The DTEK50 is in fact based on the Idol 4, coming from the same people who make Alcatel OneTouch devices – TCL Corporation.

Still, it isn’t a bad looking phone at all, with signature BlackBerry trim.

Just to recap, the mid-range device sports a 5.2-inch Full HD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 chip mated to 3GB RAM and 16GB of storage. Up storage if you wish via microSD, and it supports up to 2TB. It comes with a 13MP f/2.0 main shooter and an 8MP selfie shooter with front-facing flash.

A 2,610mAh battery with QuickCharge 2.0 keeps things running. The 4G LTE device also packs Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2 and NFC.

Aside from all the awesome security goodness (both hardware and software), DTEK50 runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.
