Maxis spreads festive cheer with #SenyumRaya

Maxis #SenyumRaya

Maxis has always been an organization that gives back to the community. For Ramadhan this year, it brought smiles to Pusat Jagaan Al-Fikrah, a welfare home for the elderly based in Kajang.

Through its festive CR program – Maxis #SenyumRaya, the green telco touched the hearts of 70 residents (male and female) at Al-Fikrah, 20 of whom are disabled (OKU). #SenyumRaya isn’t just limited to KL though, it also organized a buka puasa event for Baitul Maghfirah orphanage in Johor Bahru and Rumah Anak Yatim & Miskin Kg Pinang in Kamunting, Perak.

For project #SenyumRaya, Maxis once again worked with EPIC Homes to spruce up Pusat Jagaan Al-Fikrah. With the help of 100 Maxis volunteers, new windows and curtains were built to shelter the residents from rain and insects.

Not only that, Maxis also worked with CRC (Community, Recycle, Charity) to place recycling bins at the premises. This enables the surrounding community to put recyclable items at the supplied bins. Proceeds from the sale of recyclable items will go towards the upkeep of Pusat Jagaan Al-Fikrah.

Next, residents of the home were also treated to a new haircut for Raya, courtesy of CRC’s stylist. The CRC ambassadors also kept residents entertained during the event.

Maxis volunteers also prepared a sumptuous freshly-cooked meal with the home’s caretakers for ‘buka puasa.’ Volunteers also spent quality time with residents, especially those who are disabled.

Maxis continues to give back

Over the course of the past few years, Maxis has hosted several charity programs during all major festivals whether Chine New Year, Hari Raya, Deepavali and Christmas.

If you remember, last year, Maxis partnered Pertiwi Soup Kitchen and Kechara Soup Kitchen to distribute food and essential supplies to the urban poor and homeless around Klang Valley. I also had the chance to participate in the program, and was delighted to have done my little part to spread happiness.

Maxis also put together an internal donation drive to collect pre-loved clothes to be handed to the families.

Over the years, the telco has hosted Hari Raya open houses for various charity homes and helped in the maintenance of these homes.

If you haven’t caught it yet, do watch Maxis’ Hari Raya video #Sarikatahati – not a Raya film, a heartwrenching short film that shows how technology has changed the way we communicate with our parents and elders. Often not in the way we should.

To all our Muslim readers, fans and friends, Selamat Hari Raya and Maaf Zahir Batin. Berhati-hati di jalan raya!
