U Mobile has announced that it has completed the addition of 1,000 new 4G LTE sites, three months ahead of schedule. The new sites spread across Klang Valley, Putrajaya, Seremban, Port Dickson as well as Johor Bahru.

Too Tian Jen (TJ), U Mobile Chief Technology Officer, said that as demand for smartphones and data keep increasing, U Mobile is committed to invest even more in its network infrastructure to maintain its leadership as the telco with the best overall customer experience.

TJ revealed that 70% of U Mobile’s customers are smartphone users. The telco plans to roll out 5,000 more sites over the next five years.

U Mobile employs a unique multi-prong network strategy that includes building its own network of 4G LTE sites, RAN-sharing with partners, using dual RAN vendors and running a lean organisation. This lean OPEX and light CAPEX business model translates direct benefits to customers.

With the unique network strategy, U Mobile has over 12,000 2G/3G/4G LTE sites across Malaysia.

While it continues to build its data network, it has also started exploring pre-5G and 5G technology testing with ZTE Malaysia. 5G is expected to be commercialised on a global level by 2020.

Recently, U Mobile launched its third MVNO – Telin Malaysia, the country’s first dual number prepaid SIM card targeted at Indonesians.

The young telco continues to innovate and push the value envelope with the introduction of its HERO Postpaid P70 plan. An incredible plan that packs 7GB of data as well as unlimited local calls to all networks, for just RM70 per month.

Prepaid customers have not been ignored. Its POWER Prepaid Pack is the first ever prepaid plan that gives customers free 1GB high-speed mobile internet for life.

Its innovation and creativity hasn’t gone unnoticed. Independent speed tests have ranked the telco first for both 4G LTE and 3G network quality and speed compared to other telcos in Malaysia.

Frost & Sullivan has recognised U Mobile for Best Overall Customer Experience for the Telecommunications sector. Earlier, the telco also garnered its first Putra Brand Award in the Communication Network Category.
