OPPO Neo 7: Budget 4G LTE smartphone hits Malaysia

OPPO Neo 7

OPPO has been quick-footed this half of the year, rapidly expanding its flagship R7 series with the R7, R7 Plus, R7 Lite and R7s. To show it hasn’t ignored the masses, the China phone giant has announced the budget OPPO Neo 7. Available in Malaysia starting 3 November 2015 at the price of MYR798, the OPPO Neo 7 is feature-packed to please and looks great, too.

Resembling the now EOL-ed OPPO R1x, the Neo 7 has a fibre glass back with an optical coating. Ensuring durability is a high-strength magnesium aluminum alloy core. Weighing on 141g, it’s also slim at 7.55mm at its thinnest point. Colour options include Black and White.

Feature-packed

The Neo 7 sports a 5-inch HD TFT display and is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 SoC running at 1.2GHz, the same unit that powers the new ZenFone 2 Laser. Unfortunately, it only comes with a paltry 1GB RAM, but hopefully the efficiency of the superfast ColorOS 2.1 will balance out any performance deficiencies.

Thankfully, things are better on the storage side, as it gets 16GB in-built, and supports expandability via microSD (up to 128GB).

The Neo 7 packs an 8MP rear camera with flash and a 5MP front-facing camera. It supports dual-SIM, dual-LTE with micro-SIM and nano-SIM slots. The screen can light up in low-light conditions to brighten selfies, made possible with a light-sensitive sensor on the front.

There’s plenty of camera trickery including Pure Image 2.0+ and a plethora of filters and modes. Go crazy, why don’t you?

Additionally, there’s an UltraHD mode that shoots six photos consecutively, combines the best of each to create a 24MP resolution image.

Connectivity-wise, it ticks all the right boxes – Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, micro-USB and GPS.

Keeping it running the whole day and more is a 2,420mAh non-removable battery.

The OPPO Neo 7 runs ColorOS 2.1 on top of Android 5.1 Lollipop.

Pricing and availability

The OPPO Neo 7 retails at MYR798 and will be available from 3 November 2015.
