57 years ago, a little kid called Malaya pried its arms away from her guardians and said, “Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka!” Many things have changed, for the better. Malaysia, now all grown up – is colourful, diverse, flawed. But imperfect as we are, we’re still one big extended family. In the spirit of Merdeka, Maxis released a YouTube film entitled “It’s OK. We’re All Malaysian,” which immediately went viral with over 250,000 views in the first 36 hours.

At the very end of the video, Maxis teased that it would introduce a fun new way for Malaysians to connect with this extended “Malaysian Family.”

Following that, the “Malaysia Family” greeting cards featuring family terms in different languages has been introduced – ‘Uncle’, ‘Macha’ (brother in Tamil), Jie Jie’ (elder sister in Mandarin), ‘Kak’ and ‘Aya’ (uncle in Iban). Each of these terms are individualised with greeting messages with the objective of telling a fellow Malaysian that “you’re family to me.”

Awwww. *fuzzy inside

The set of 24 cards are available in two formats – e-cards designed to be shared on social networks, and also special edition printed cards which Maxis will be giving away to fans on Maxis and Hotlink social media pages.
