The iPad mini. Yay? Or nay?

October 23, 2012 – As expected, Apple introduced the iPad mini at a special event in San Jose, California. Apple certainly had “a little more to show” as the tech giant also introduced a new fourth generation iPad as well, something that caught many people off-guard.

The new iPad mini features:

 •  7.9-inch Multi-Touch™ display (1024 x 768 resolution @ 163ppi)
 • Apple A5 dual-core processor
 • 1.2MP FaceTime® HD
 • 5MP iSight camera
 • Ultrafast wireless performance
 • Lightning connector
 • An incredible 10 hours of battery life
 • Siri

According to Apple, the new iPad mini is every inch an iPad, yet in a revolutionary design you can hold in one hand. The new 7.9-inch iPad is only 308g light, with a depth of 7.2mm.

Apple also, surprisingly, announced the fourth generation iPad featuring:

 • Gorgeous 9.7-inch Retina™ display
 • New Apple dual-core A6X chip with quad-core graphics
 • 1.2MP FaceTime® HD
 • 5MP iSight camera
 • Lightning connector
 • Ultrafast wireless performance
 • Siri

Both iPad mini and fourth generation iPad come with iOS 6, the world’s most advanced mobile operating system with over 200 new features.
“iPad mini is every inch an iPad. With its gorgeous 7.9-inch display, iPad mini features the same number of pixels as the original iPad and iPad 2, so you can run more than 275,000 apps designed specifically for iPad,”  said Philip Schiller
Reactions have been quite mixed about the new smaller iPad mini. The Android camp cried fouled over troll level 10 comparisons of the iPad mini versus the Nexus 7. Some said the iPad mini reminded them of a GALAXY Note. Others commented, “Where and when can I get one?”. Some quarters were not happy that their new iPad (third gen), isn’t quite new anymore.

Reactions aside, analysts expects Apple to sell over 10 million units by end of the year. Analysts also believe the iPad mini will cannibalise some of the iPad sales, as much as 1 in 10 units sold.
