Maxis recently paid special tribute to two of our national heroes, and Maxis Sports Ambassadors – national badminton player YBhg Dato’ Lee Chong Wei and national diver Pandelela Rinong. Fresh from their medal-winning heroics at the 2012 London Olympics, they were joined by Maxis employees for photo opportunities and autograph sessions at Menara Maxis.

The duo were presented with incentive bonuses for their achievements – RM50,000 for Dato Lee’s silver medal and RM30,000 for Pandelela’s bronze medal.

The Maxis Sports Ambassadors programme was introduced in 2011 to spur other  Malaysians to strive for sporting excellence at the highest level. Maxis provides each Ambassador with mobile devices with wireless broadband packages, monthly stipends for maintaining or improving their world rankings, and of course, special incentive bonuses for medal winners of the 2012 London Olympics.

As the Olympic Council of Malaysia’s (OCM) official mobile service provider for the 2012 London Olympics, Maxis provided special mobile packages to the Malaysian Olympic Contingent.

Other athletes who signed up under this programme include national badminton heroes Tan Boon Heong and Koo Kien Keat; squash player Azlan Iskandar; cyclist Azizulhasni Awang; diver Leong Mun Yee as well as national footballers Khairul Fahmi Chemat and Safiq Rahim.
