What’s this about Communication Shutdown? It’s a global initiative to raise funds for autism groups globally. What’s going to happen is that you can voluntarily shutdown social networks for a day on November 1, to encourage a greater understanding of people with autism. Social communication is one of the biggest challenges for people with autism, so by choosing to shutdown your social networks for one day, you will have some idea of what it’s like for people with autism who face this challenge every day.

All you need to do is make a minimum donation to receive the Charity App (CHAPP). The CHAPP tells your Facebook friends and Twitter followers that you’re volunteering to shutdown and gives you a ‘shutdown badge’ to wear online. It adds your Facebook pic to the global mosaic and gives you a bunch of other cool stuff (so you can still join if you don’t have Facebook or Twitter).
