We’re kicking off a new tech-centric series this week, and we’re calling it “Tech Thursday”. Why Thursday? Because it’s towards the end of the week, hence a sufficient number of days to compile interesting news updates for the week. We’ll also be rolling out another series next week called “Mobile Mondays”, bringing you mobile-related news and reviews. We hope you’ll enjoy the new enhancements as much as we enjoy posting them!

Nokia enters phablet fray with new Lumia 625
The Nokia Lumia 625 becomes the giant in the Windows Phone 8 world, with a large 4.7-inch display pushing out 221ppi. Packed with a 1.2Ghz dual-core Snapdragon chip, 512MB RAM and 8GB of flash storage (expandable to 64GB via microSD), the new device lives and breathes Lumia DNA. The interchangeable polycarbonate shell comes in a variety of colours. Available in Q3 2013, the value smartphone is expected to cost just RM1,000 (€220) before telco subsidies. Read original story.

Motorola unveils new Droids
After much silence since being acquired by Google lock-stock-and-barrel, Motorola partnering Verizon unleashes a new line-up of Droid smartphones – Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx, Droid Mini. The trio feature top-of-the-line specs – Motorola X8 Mobile Computing System, a new 8-core SoC based on the Snapdragon S4 Pro chip. The Droid Ultra and Droid Maxx feature 5-inch 72-p OLED displays. The Droid Ultra is the “thinnest 4G LTE smartphone” on the market. Read the entire story.

Just three months after its Malaysian introduction, Microsoft Malaysia has announced big price cuts to its consumer tablet – Surface RT. This is in line with recent price cuts in the US, where Microsoft cut $150 across all its Surface RT variants. The base model Surface RT (minus cover) goes for just RM1,099.
