You may not be perfect in many sense of word, but you are rich, resourceful, warm, colourful, inspiring, delicious, friendly and in many ways…together. You’ve come a long way, Malaysia. And you’ve grown up. Here’s to another 50 glorious years of adventure!

The dream finals as everyone expected did not quite materialise. World’s number two badminton player, Lee Chong Wei faltered at the final hurdle of the Beijing Olympics 2008 men’s singles badminton event, falling to world number one “Super Dan” Lin of China. Malaysia’s last and only hope of gold was quickly extinguished with Chong Wei simply outclassed by the Chinese 21-12, 21-8. Chong Wei was never allowed to settle in, committing many unforced errors while Lin Dan set the pace and pounced at every opportunity. The Chinese top seed showed exactly why he is the world’s number one with a splendid display of speed and perfect court craft, catching Chong Wei off-guard throughout. Many a times, Lin Dan was simply 2 to 3 steps ahead of Chong Wei leaving the Malaysian hopeful scurrying around the court.

Chong Wei did not have any real answer to Lin Dan’s fearsome pace and buckled under pressure. It’s a sad reality check for Chong Wei although he did exceedingly well to reach the finals. A little anti-climatic to be honest, but one can only imagine the kind of pressure Chong Wei went through throughout the match. All Malaysians were behind you, Chong Wei. Still a job well done despite your loss. We’re still proud of you. Better luck next time!

“God willing I hope Malaysians will not demonstrate over this,” he said, referring to fury over earlier hikes in a country where public transport is poor and most people are reliant on their cars. 

Hahah. Was that a joke?

Inflation is set to increase to 5% this year. Oh, and it’s supposed to be a consolation that Malaysia has one of the lowest petrol prices in Asia. Wow, I’m impressed. For an oil producing country, the Rakyat does not seem to benefit from the rich natural resources Malaysia has. And God I sure hope that for the RM17.4 billion the Government is saving, they plan to spend a huge chunk of that to drastically improve our public transport. Bring it to the levels of our neighbours Singapore or another fine example of a great, efficient public transport system – Hong Kong. Maybe then people will be less dependent on their cars and not complain about petrol hikes!

Oh, and don’t panic. And don’t rush to pump petrol tonight.

The Rakyat has spoken. The Rakyat is not, as the current Government wants us to believe, stupid. There has been too much bullshit. Sentiments of wanting change is strong. And for once I’m happy. This is for a better Malaysia. I believe future will be a bright one. And it’s about bloody time.

• Opposition wins 27 state seats in Penang – 11.40pm
  The opposition has won 27 out of 40 state seats in Penang – DAP (19 seats), PKR (6) and PAS (2). Of the parliament seats, DAP has seven seats while PKR has three so far.
• Confirmed: Opposition takes Kedah
• PAS and PKR have won 22 out of 36 state seats in Kedah.
• MIC’s new face T Mohan has been defeated by Amirudin Shari from the PKR.
• MIC’s Wanita chief Komala loses in Kapar – defeated by PKR’s S Manikavasagam by a 3,000-vote majority.
• State DAP chief Chow Kom Yeow said this was relayed to him by Koh who is also Gerakan acting president. Speaking at a press conference at Hotel Macalister in Georgetown, Chow said Koh told him that the wishes of the people must be respected. DAP has again appealed to its supporters to remain calm.
• information minister, Zam loses in Sungai Petani has lost Kedah’s Sungai Petani parliamentary seat to PKR’s Johari Abdul by 10,000 votes.
• Hindraf leader and ISA-detainee M Manoharan, on a DAP ticket, obtained 12,699 votes to win with a 7,184-vote majority the Kota Alam Shah state seat (Selangor).
• PKR’s Nurul Izzah Anwar, Anwar Ibrahim’s daughter beats Shahrizat – at Kuala Lumpur’s Lembah Pantai.
• MIC president S Samy Vellu has suffered a shock defeat at the hands of PSM’s Dr D Jeyakumar for the Sungai Siput parliamentary seat. Today is Samy Vellu’s 72nd birthday.
• Teresa Kok has won her Seputeh parliamentary seat with an unprecedented 36,564 majority. She also won the Kinrara state seat with a massive 4,901 majority.Latest official tally – 11.33pm
  As at 11.20pm, BN has won 52 parliamentary seats, followed by DAP with six, PAS (2) and PKR (2)
