The annual summit addresses issues related to SMEs and showcases ICT solutions to help companies of all sizes and industries run better.

This year, SAP showcased its 2011 business performance among Malaysian SMEs and outlined its solutions to help SMEs improve operational efficiencies and accelerate growth. With SMEs making up more than 98 percent of businesses in Malaysia, SAP is committed to supporting the goals of the Malaysian Economic Transformation Plan (ETP) by encouraging the use of ICT to increase efficiency and succeed in achieving a GDP contribution of 40 percent by year 2020.

Dato Hafsah Hashim, SMECorp CEO, delivered a keynote address at the summit encouraging Malaysian SMEs to aid in driving business success within and beyond Malaysia and said “To successfully compete in the global economy it is critical that Malaysian businesses adopt ICT solutions to improve operational performance, raise productivity and reduce costs,” said Dato Hafsah. “SAP has a proven track record of helping Malaysian SMEs become best-run businesses with innovative ICT solutions that are now increasingly available on mobile devices like the iPad and through cost-effective cloud computing.”

SMEs face numerous hurdles when adopting a business solution such as cost and complexity which may include costs of the software and services, as well as people and time. Aside from this, tighter budgets, less sophistication and organizational knowledge, technology hurdles and fewer people, meaning are constant issues for SMEs.

In order to address these issues, SAP identified two key areas which are important when applying an ICT solution to a business. They are:

Mobility

In November 2011, SAP is showcased 50 business applications for SMEs at SAPPHIRENOW in Madrid. 20 of these applications were free and 11 came from SAP’s partner ecosystem.

Not only is SAP a proponent of mobility for the business, it is also an exponent of this approach. SAP ended 2011 having deployed 14,000 iPads to 53,000 employees scattered all over the world. That includes all of its salespeople, a high proportion of IT staffers and developers, as well as many managers and senior executives. SAP is the second-largest user of iPads in the world.

Rapid Deployment Solutions

SAP has also innovated in the way in which it delivers business software solutions to customers, particularly to SMEs. SAP’s Rapid Deployment Solutions (RDS) are a set of pre-configured, fixed price offerings with a well delineated scope that can be up and running in just 12 weeks. Today there are more than 50 RDS offerings in market, with more being rolled out each quarter. All RDS offerings are rigorously put through and internal SAP qualification process to ensure their stability, reliability and full integration with SAP’s broad portfolio of products before being delivered to customers by experienced partners within the SAP Ecosystem. SMEs can then choose to extend their RDS deployments with comprehensive SAP solutions, preserving their investment and minimising the need to retrain personnel to use new tools.

SAP SME Summit 2012 showcases ICT Solutions for Malaysian Small Businesses

Helps SMEs improve operational performance, raise productivity and reduce costs, while continuing to drive growth and expansion into new markets

KUALA LUMPUR – May 3, 2012 – SAP, the world market and technology leader in business management software, showcased its 2011 business performance among Malaysian SMEs and outlined its solutions to help SMEs improve operational efficiencies and accelerate growth in today’s increasingly challenging global markets at the SAP SME Summit 2012 held at the InterContinental Kuala Lumpur.

More than 80 per cent of SAP’s 176,000 global customers are SMEs, 90 per cent of which are in the lower middle and small enterprise markets. In Malaysia, SAP is committed to supporting the goals of Malaysia’s Economic Transformation Plan (ETP) put forth by Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak to help Malaysian businesses use ICT to transform the way they work and for Malaysian SMEs to succeed in growing their GDP contribution to 40 per cent by the year 2020.

Presently, SMEs make up over 98 per cent of businesses in Malaysia and in 2011 SMEs contribute about 31 per cent to GDP, 56 per cent to the workforce and account for 19 per cent of Malaysia’s total national exports.

Delivering the keynote address at the SAP SME Summit 2012 to executives from 150 top Malaysian SMEs, SMECorp CEO Dato’ Hafsah Hashim encouraged Malaysian SMEs of all sizes to seek out best in class ICT solutions to help them drive business success within and beyond Malaysia. “To successfully compete in the global economy it is critical that Malaysian businesses adopt ICT solutions to improve operational performance, raise productivity and reduce costs,” said Dato Hafsah. “SAP has a proven track record of helping Malaysian SMEs become best-run businesses with innovative ICT solutions that are now increasingly available on mobile devices like the iPad and through cost-effective cloud computing.”

SMEs are mostly owner-managed, entrepreneurial companies. And for many entrepreneurs, business information and decision support tools tend to be a combination of static historical reports, analysis spreadsheets and gut feel, which is fine while the SME is small and easily managed on this basis. However, as the business grows it needs to sustain its flexibility and agility in the face of stiffer competition and increasing volumes of information and regulation. Business software solutions are invaluable tools to help SMEs remain lean and efficient companies while supporting business growth with quick and accurate decision making.

Typically the barriers among SMEs to the adoption of business software solutions are cost and complexity. Costs include software and services, as well as people and time. The SME faces additional hurdles, such as tighter budgets, less sophistication and organizational knowledge, technology hurdles and fewer people, meaning less time to spend on planning and analysis. Consequently, the typical SME needs outside help defining critical success factors and the relevant metrics.

“SAP’s strategy to serve the SME market is to approach the market in the way that best addresses our customers’ needs and buying preferences,” said SAP Malaysia Managing Director Serene Sia. “By working with partners and an extended ecosystem, SAP is introducing alternative business software deployment, packaging and licensing options such as software-as-a-service, cloud computing and pre-built applications. These innovations give SMEs with limited in-house IT resources, to get an advanced ICT system up and running more quickly, with minimal cost, fuss and risk.”

Mobility

Among SAP’s goals is to bring mobility to the masses and one of the key objectives for SAP’s mobility strategy was to enable any size company to mobilize. To effectively serve SMEs this means delivering ready-to-use applications that address specific business needs.

In November 2011, SAP is showcased 50 business applications for SMEs at SAPPHIRENOW in Madrid. 20 of these applications were free and 11 came from SAP’s partner ecosystem.

SAP’s broad range of mobile business solutions for SMEs allows the companies to:

• Access and act on real-time business insights – anytime, anywhere

• Increase employee productivity and accelerate decision making

• Boost customer engagement, satisfaction, and responsiveness

• Develop innovative mobile applications that meet your business needs

RDS are one of the best ways for SMEs to add analytics or CRM, extend their logistics or planning capabilities or start to automate collaborative processes with partners. Using RDS, SMEs can jump start their use of ICT to transform their business in a manner that is both pragmatic and cost-effective, and that allows them to achieve rapid time to value.

As their businesses grow, SMEs can then choose to extend their RDS deployments with comprehensive SAP solutions, thus preserving their investment and minimising the need to retrain personnel to use new tools.

Using SAP Rapid Deployment Solutions, companies can get SAP applications up and running in no time.

About SAP

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Microsoft’s “It’s A Great Time To Be A Family” Campaign Draws to a Close Captivating over 6 million Malaysians in just four months

The campaign, focused on illustrating how technology bring families together, was a resounding success.

Kuala Lumpur, 3 April 2012 – After four exciting months, Microsoft’s “It’s a Great Time To Be A Family” campaign, which was rolled out across 35 markets worldwide, came to a close having reached over 6 million people in Malaysia. This amazing success was achieved through a number of initiatives executed, including the Microsoft’s first ever Windows and Microsoft Office TV commercials, the sponsored web-series with the bubbly NTV7 personalities Nazaruddin and Sheahnee talking about the use of technology to keep their family together and a number of in-store promotions.

“At Microsoft, we have a fundamental belief that technology can inspire and improve people’s lives. We’re ecstatic about the amazing response to this campaign. It’s certainly a great indicator of how well received Microsoft products are among Malaysians. More importantly, the campaign is a success because we’ve demonstrated how our own family of products, including Windows PCs, Windows Phone devices, Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer 9, and Windows Live have helped each one of you reclaim your family time despite your busy schedule and geographical diversity,” said Sunny Ooi, Microsoft Malaysia, Consumer Channels Group Director.

“We’re geared up to release more exciting consumer products this year and we look forward to engage Malaysians with even more wonderful campaigns that demonstrate how Microsoft can help to make your life better,” he added.

The campaign captivated over 6 million Malaysians through various mediums such as TV, Print and online, making it the biggest marketing campaign Microsoft Malaysia has embarked on since its inception in the country in 1992. The campaign has had a positive impact on social media as well with Microsoft seeing its Facebook fans increase of 188% within the same four months.

Great Family Time Contest

In conjunction with the campaign, Microsoft also held a “Great Family Time” contest to encourage the adoption and educate consumers on importance of using genuine software. With just a purchase of a Microsoft Genuine Software as pre-requisite, participants stood to win a Nissan Grand Livina as the Grand Prize. Drift legend and Japanese compatriot Marabu Orido driving for Team RSR finished second with Thailand’s Kiki Sak Nana of Red Bull Drift Team clinching the final podium spot.

Malaysia drifters showed they had what it took to play with other world class drivers. Thanks to home ground advantage and the cheering partisan crowd, 10 out of 13 Malaysian drivers qualified for the found of 32. Lim Zee King, Tan Tat Wei, Ser Ming Hui and Mervyn “Nakamura” Abdullah all made it into the Top 16. Mervyn in fact caused quite a stir by upsetting Thailand’s ace driver “Non” Saranon Pornpatanarak who was ranked second in the series coming into the competition. Mervyn however bowed out to Thailand’s Chantpon Kerdpiam in the last eight, after a close battle which went into a rematch. The other Malaysian hopeful, Ser Ming Hui made it into the quarterfinals before being stopped by eventual champion Saito.

Defending champion Saito was flawless throughout the competition, and at most times, looked unthreatened and unchallenged. From his previous experience at Dataran Merdeka last year which had a similar layout, Saito and his team purpose-built and prepped his race car to better optimise to the track conditions and layout. The much-anticipated final duel between Saito and the familiar figure Orido was exciting but ultimately one-sided. Orido made a rare error, spinning out in the first run to give Saito and upper hand for the remaining run. Saito only had to keep it error-free in the second run to ensure his title finish.

Saito’s consistency and amazing form has seen him sweep the Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia legs.

PRESS RELEASE

18 December 2011 (Kuala Lumpur) – Daigo Saito of Sparks Achilles Drift Team claimed the Achilles Formula Drift 2011 Malaysia title and clinched the overall Drivers’ Champion in style at the Dataran Merdeka today, concluding the thrilling Achilles Formula Drift Series in Kuala Lumpur. It was the second consecutive year the Japanese emerged victorious in the Malaysian leg, and the 2011 series favourite proved too strong for the competition for another drift legend, compatriot Manabu Orido of Team RSR, who finished runners– up today. Saito took the lead in the first run, and Orido made an uncharacteristic spin going into the first clipping point.

Saito only had to make sure he turned in an error-free performance in the second run, and the Japanese did not disappoint, much to the pleasure of the enthusiastic crowd. Today’s victory saw Saito sweep the 2011 Achilles Formula Drift Series after winning the Singapore and Indonesian leg earlier this year.

Kiki Sak Nana of Red Bull Drift Team Thailand rounded off the top three of Achilles Formula Drift Malaysia 2011, after beating compatriot Chanatpon Kerdpiam in the third–fourth race.

However, it was the Malaysian drivers who drew the loudest cheers with the local drivers making the most out of the home support. In the Round of 32, Malaysia’s Mervyn ´Nakamura´ Abdullah caused the biggest upset by defeating Thailand ace driver Non (Saranon Pornpatanarak), who was ranked second in the series coming into today´s competition. Mervyn reached the last eight before losing to Thailand’s Chantpon Kerdpiam in a close battle that went into a rematch. Another local favourite, Ser Ming Hui, also made it to the quarter finals before losing to eventual champion Saito.

Out of the 13 Malaysians who participated in the Malaysian Drift, 10 qualified into the round of 32, with Lim Zee King, Tan Tat Wei joining Ser Ming Hui and Mervyn Nakamura in the top 16 – a clear indication of the quality of Malaysian drifters.

However it was the Japanese contingent that once again demonstrated the difference with Daigo’s near-flawless drifting. Orido, known for his stylish persona and cowboy hat, made his debut in Malaysia and the drifting legend surely gave the Malaysian crowd a real spectacle to behold.

Today´s finale also saw Sparks Achilles winning the overall Team Champion for the 2011 season, bolstered by Saito´s sweep over the Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia legs.

The nail-biting final at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta saw the young Malaysians beating Indonesia’s “Garuda Muda” 4-3 in penalty shootouts.

The much-anticipated final showdown between two of South East Asia’s best teams was keenly contested right from the beginning with Indonesia threatening the unsettled Malaysian defense in the early minutes. The Indonesians were relentless in attacks with danger men Titus Bonai and Patrich Wanggai in offense.

The Indonesians were rewarded in the 5th minute through a glancing header from a corner kick. Unmarked Gunawan Dwi Cahyo made no mistake to put Indonesia 1-0 ahead. The goal did wonders for Ong Kim Swee’s young side it seemed with the Tigers tidying up their game and kept much of the possession in the remaining half.

Malaysia drew level in the 38th minute with a sliding header by Mohd Asraruddin Putra Omar, stunning the home side. The Malaysians in the capacity 87,000 crowd went wild. So did Malaysians in mamak stalls, pubs and at home. I donned my Harimau Malaya jersey with some friends to catch the game at Tom, Dick & Harry and it went absolutely berserk! Celebrations all around!

The second half saw Indonesia dominating possession and both side parried each others blows. Both teams fought hard till the end of full time with score level. If diabetes didn’t kill Malaysians for our love for teh tarik, then high blood pressure certain would, no thanks to the suspenseful drama on pitch. Two disallowed goals from either side due to offside was enough to send temperatures soaring.

Tired but still fighting, both teams had to settle with penalty kicks.

In the penalty shoot-out, Titus Bonai, Egi Melgiansyah and Abdul Rahman were on target for Indonesia while Gunawan Dwi Cahyo and Ferdinan A.S. failed to convert their attempts, no thanks to the able hands of Khairul Fahmi who was brilliant all night.

For Malaysia, Mahalli Jasuli, Fandi Othman and Mohd Fadhli Shas were spot on with their kicks. Ahmad Fakri Saarani made it a little harder for Malaysia, having his weak grounder saved by Indonesian keeper. Skipper Baddrol stepped up to take the fifth and final penalty for Malaysia and although managed to be parried by the lanky Indonesian keeper, the ball had enough momentum to roll into the net.

We jumped. We screamed. We high fived. We leaped. We banged tables.

So a well-deserved goal medal for Malaysia! In all honesty, this is one of the best, most exciting football finals I’ve watched in a while. It’s cruel to have to pick a team to win, as I thought both teams played brilliantly in their own ways to come out champions. But I guess there can only be one winner.

This is another bright day for Malaysian football. The glory days of the 1980′s are slowly and steadily returning.

Syabas, Harimau Muda. I stand proud!

Did you watch the game? Tell us how you felt about it!

While there wasn’t an official big launch with the iPad 2 in Malaysia, the biggest Apple reseller – machines announced availability of the sexy tablet ‘iDevice’ for Friday through a couple of its outlets. Hundreds queued before doors were open officially at 10.00am, several even queued the night before! The first in line was Wilson from iPadMalaysiaLabs.com. Thousands queued at other authorised Apple resellers outside of the Klang Valley including Johor, Ipoh, Penang and Kuching. Unfortunately, due to limited stock, the iPad 2s were sold out within an hour. Fresh batches of stock is expected to hit store within 1-2 weeks.

For those who can wait, Apple has updated its online store where you can also place an order for your iPad 2. Ships within 1-2 weeks, which isn’t such a long wait after all.

Apple has really upped the ante this time round by making the iPad 2 available in Malaysia at the same time as countries like Singapore. No longer do buyers have to depend on the overinflated grey market, much to the dismay of grey market importers of course. One such disgruntled seller on LowYat.net had this to say:
