Report potholes in Selangor with Waze and get them patched

Waze report potholes

Nobody loves potholes. They’re annoying, they damage your car, and pose a danger to motorcyclists. But here’s a piece of great news. You can now help make Selangor a smoother, better place. In a ground-breaking collaboration between Waze and the Selangor State Government, you can help report potholes so that they can be patched more efficiently.

Waze, built around a community of users that share real-time traffic data and other relevant information, is the platform to help make our lives on the road better. Drivers now have a simple, quick and effective way to report potholes directly to the authorities, and ensure they get patched quickly.

The initiative covers all twelve Selangor State Local Authorities, namely: Petaling Jaya (MBPJ), Shah Alam (MBSA), Hulu Selangor (MDHS), Kuala Langat (MDKL), Kuala Selangor (MDKS), Sabak Bernam (MDSB), Ampang Jaya (MPAJ), Kajang (MPKJ), Klang (MPK), Selayang (MPS), Sepang (MPSepang) and Subang Jaya (MPSJ). However, some roads in Selangor are privately owned or separately managed by the Public Works Department (‘Jabatan Kerja Raya’), the State District Office (‘Pejabat Daerah / Tanah’), or the Malaysia Highway Authority and Concessionaires.

Smart Selangor Delivery Unit (SSDU) Deputy Program Director Dr Fahmi Ngah revealed that from January to November this year, the Selangor State Government has received more than 19,000 reports via Waze. Most of the potholes reported on Local Authority roads have been patched.

To safely report potholes via Waze, follow these steps:

  1. When you see a pothole, get your passenger to tap and hold down the Reports icon.

I applaud the SSDU on embarking on this initiative, and hope other local authorities will work with Waze to make our roads safer and better.
