2018 Perodua Myvi looks to be a winner

2018 Perodua Myvi

Perodua has finally launched the long awaited third generation Myvi hatchback. It now comes with a plethora of features for a lot less money. Find out more after the jump.
The third generation Perodua Myvi is now here and comes with a very competitive price tag. From launch, there are four trim lines with each having its own unique features.

But first, let’s take a stroll into the history side of the Myvi. The B-segment hatchback was first launched in 2005 and was intended to be a particularly niche model. Of course, most people of the time bought both small and large sedans. But Perodua had a huge breakthrough as the Myvi sold like hotcakes.

The Myvi then held the title of the best selling car in Malaysia. That is until 2015 when the smaller Viva replacement, the Axia stole the show. Needless to say, the Myvi is still well and able to keep the ball rolling for the company. Then in 2011, the second generation Myvi came down the road and as expected, it also sold like hotcakes. According to the brand, the Myvi achieved its one million unit milestone in June this year.

Of course, there was a challenge. The second generation car had a new contender in the market, the Proton Iriz. Ever since then, it was rather worrying for the brand when Proton offered their contender with six airbags and keyless entry, for example. Now however, the latest Myvi is in town and dare I say, it is on the same level as the Honda Jazz in terms of space (except rear headroom) and its value for money features.

Starting with the design. The all-new Myvi is designed in-house by Perodua with no external input from other companies. But as you look at the car, there are some similarities with its rivals. Some of you might have the view that it looks like a  redesigned Toyota Auris or a Thai-spec Toyota Yaris, but in reality, it is completely different. However, some of the styling cues may seem reminiscent of other cars in the market. I’ll let you decide for yourself.

Here are specs at a glance.

Perodua has announced that over 5,000 bookings have already been made prior to the launch, and this was even before customers have seen the car up close and personal. I don’t know about you, but if I was Proton or Honda (B-segment’s fiercest competitors), I’d be mighty worried. Because, I think Perodua has a winner in its hands. And by a mile, too.
