Wiko View brings near bezel-less screen and dual selfie cameras to the masses

Wiko View

French smartphone maker Wiko has launched a new line smartphones in Malaysia–the Wiko View and View Prime. For the first time ever, Wiko has integrated a near bezel-less screen and a dual front camera setup on its device. Read on to learn more.

Wiko View and Wiko Prime

Both View models comes with a 5.7-inch HD+ IPS (1440×720) display with a 2.5D glass curve, finished off with a metal back. With a 18:9 aspect ratio, both View devices have a screen-to-body ratio of more than 80% making the screen large and easy for usability.

Holding the phone itself is easy with a comfortable grip allows users to do one-handed operations. Colour options for the View are Black, Cherry Red and Deep Bleen while the View Prime omits the Cherry Red option.

Cameras

Here’s where it gets interesting. The View Prime comes with a whopping 20MP+8MP dual front cameras. The dual camera setup helps create better quality selfies and low-light performance is further aided by the soft front flash. Also added is Auto-HDR and it also features electronic image stabilisation (EIS). Importantly the dual-camera setup enables “bokeh” mode (Live Portrait Blur).

The standard View’s camera is a more conventional 16MP unit. However, “bokeh” mode is also present. The View and View Prime selfie cameras come with a f/2.0 aperture lens and 5P lenses.

Now, for the main camera. The View Prime comes with a 16MP f/2.0 sensor whereas the View comes with a 13MP main shooter. Auto-Scene detection is present on both View models, which adjusts settings and optimise pictures for most conditions. Also present for both rear cameras is the same “bokeh” mode.

Having briefly tested cameras on both devices during the launch, I found them snappy and delivered good colour reproduction. The selfie cameras are especially zippy, and bokeh/depth of field mode worked reasonably well.

Performance

Under the hood, the standard View includes a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. It also packs a 2,900mAh battery that charges up via micro-USB.

Meanwhile, the View Prime has an octa-core Snapdragon 430 with a 4GB RAM + 64GB storage configuration and has a slightly larger 3,000mAh battery.

By the way, another plus point is dual-SIM support with a dedicated microSD slot.

Both devices run Wiko UI based on Android 7.1 Nougat out-of-the-box, and will receive Android Oreo when it’s available later.

Pricing

Prices for the View is at MYR899 while the View Prime can be yours for just MYR1,199. Come October this year, both View and View Prime will be available for purchase at all authorised Wiko outlets nationwide.

In one fell swoop, Wiko has outgunned the just-launched Huawei nova 2i and vivo V7+, both with immersive near bezel-less displays. Keeping to its promise of delivering accessible, great value (and well-built, mind you) devices, the new devices are Wiko’s most exciting yet.
