Take a chill pill, the Galaxy Note8 will be cheaper than you think

Samsung Galaxy Note8

Fresh from its unpacking in New York, the Galaxy Note8 is making its way to global markets starting 15 September 2017. While our southern neighbour Singapore is first to the gun in terms of official pricing, we’ve been busy speculating about how much it would cost on Malaysian shores. A direct conversion from SGD would place it at over MYR4,000. Already the general sentiment is that Samsung’s new flagship is “expensive,” and “overpriced.”

But hang on a minute. A leak from local Chinese tech site MDROID has put those speculations and rumours to rest. The leak is in the form of actual artwork for the Samsung Galaxy Note8 pre-order promo that’s set to kick off on 5 September.

The pre-order will run from 5-10 September 2017, and just like it did for the Galaxy S8, it’s throwing in plenty of exclusive goodies as part of the pre-order bundle.

The official price? drumrollsMYR3,999. Dipping below the psychological level of MYR4,000. Interesting. It isn’t the first time that Samsung has adjustd local pricing to be “more competitive,” making it slightly more affordable than some foreign markets.

Based on the leaked artwork, pre-order buyers will enjoy a total savings of MYR888. This includes a cash rebate of MYR321, Samsung Protection Plus plan (one-year screen crack warranty and one-year extended warranty worth MYR298), a 5,100mAh powerbank (worth MYR269), and a free clear cover.

Samsung Galaxy Note8 official pre-order

It is unclear if the rebate is an instant rebate on the SRP pricing of the Note8, but if that’s the case, then this will put the pricing of the device slightly lower than the Galaxy S8+.

Our Singaporean friends will have the bonus of a free Samsung DeX Station though, the nifty little gadget that turns your Note8 into a desktop computer. Boo.

Head over to the official Galaxy Note8 pre-order page for updates (when the time comes that is!)

So, what do you think of the purported official pricing? Yay or nay?
