Malaysia is first in ASEAN to introduce 2017 City Sport Hybrid i-DCD

2017 Honda City Hybrid

Malaysia continues to be hub for “firsts” for Honda as it rolls out the 2017 City Sport Hybrid i-DCD to local shores. Once again, Malaysia becomes the only country outside of Japan to introduce new tech in its products.

The B-segment leader has been a hit since its launch in March this year, recording over 12,000 units sold in just four months. The introduction of the new powertrain is expected to strengthen its commanding position. The model has been consistently popular among Malaysian consumers, with over 115,800 units of its 4th generation model sold, since its launch in 2014.

Offered at below MYR90,000, the hybrid variant is not just affordable but packs advanced technology and safety technology; and a sporty drive.

The New City Hybrid is Honda’s second hybrid model, following the New Jazz Sport Hybrid. It’s also the fifth new model in Honda Malaysia’s expansive line-up that includes the new Jazz, Civic, Accord and CR-V.

In terms of looks, it’s instantly family, although ultimately, it’s what’s underneath that matters. Under the hood lies a 1.5L DOHC i-VTEC power plant mated to a 7-Speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) with an Integrated Power Motor. Like on the New Jazz Hybrid, the i-DCD Hybrid Drive System seamlessly switches between electric mode and sport mode.

The DCT uses Shift-by-Wire gear that’s both sporty, smooth and responsive. Used in combination with a paddle shifter, it gives you more manual control over upshifts and downshifts.

The combination delivers up to 135bhp horsepower and 170Nm, numbers that are equivalent to a 1.8L engine.

While there’s commendable power delivery, the New City Hybrid returns impressive fuel efficiency numbers, too–25.64km/l (3.9l/100km).

And by the way, Honda harnesses a bigger, more durable Lithium-ion battery in the new hybrid car.

You’ll appreciate the new advanced 3D Meter Design (Multi-Information Display) that shows you Energy Flow, Sport Meter, Fuel Economy, Drive Info, Customization and ECO Display.

As seen on Honda’s new 2017 vehicle portfolio, equipment levels are impressive. It comes with a 6.8-inch display audio, touch panel air-conditioning, daytime running lights (DRL), LED tail lights and 16-inch dual tone alloy wheels.

Boot space is a generous 536L, which is the same as the petrol variant, and consequently, the biggest in its segment. This is despite the IPU battery located beneath it.

The New City Hybrid doesn’t skimp on the best, most advanced safety features either. It’s equipped with four airbags, ABS, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), reverse camera and Emergency Stop Signal (ESS).
