Here’s another reason to love the Nokia, 6, 5 and 3: Android O

Nokia 5 Malaysia launch

Nokia’s first series of smartphones are fresh out the oven, and in Malaysia are due to hit retail channels in mid-June. The Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 combine Nokia’s signature craftsmanship with a pure Android experience.

HMD Global, official home to Nokia phones and tablets, has confirmed exclusively to TechRadar that the trio will get Android O once its available. The Finnish smartphone maker has promised monthly security updates and a bloatware-free experience on the new Nokia devices.

Being stock Android, the Nokia trio will receive the Android O update promptly, once the release is made available by Google.

Android O is slated for a Q3 2017 release, and may potentially be available to Nokia devices before Christmas.

Android O is Google’s next generation OS that was announced at the annual Google I/O conference last month.

The latest OS iteration promises faster boot and app launch times, improved Doze function, Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode, enhanced notifications, contextual press-to-hold options, adaptive app icons and more.

Having experienced Android O beta on the Nexus 6P, all I can say is that there’s lots to love, although it’s still expectedly buggy in its current form.

As a quick recap, the Nokia 6 and Nokia 5 feature an aluminium unibody, packing 5.5-inch Full HD and 5.2-inch HD displays respectively. Both utilise the lower mid-range Snapdragon 430 processor.

The budget Nokia 3 on the other hand features a MediaTek MTK6737 processor and is housed in an aluminium frame and polycarbonate body.

The Nokia 6 retails at MYR999, the Nokia 5 at MYR799 and the Nokia 3 at MYR599.
