ZTE Axon 7 update brings support for 256GB microSD and Night Mode

ZTE Axon 7

For owners of the ZTE Axon 7 smartphone, here’s some great news. ZTE is rolling out a version B25 software update that brings some nifty new functions, enhancements and bug fixes to the flagship device.

The Axon 7 will now be able to support microSD cards of up to 256GB. Prior to this, it could only take a maximum of 128GB.

Next, the device now comes with “Night Mode” as well as an optimised “Do Not Disturb” function.

Here’s a list of official changes supplied by ZTE:

  • Enables “Night Mode” setting
  • Supports 256GB microSD cards
  • Allows users to disable some stock apps
  • Optimizes the “Do Not Disturb” function
  • Fixes various Wi-Fi Calling issues
  • Improves device stability and security
  • Miscellaneous performance improvements and other fixes

The update is rolling out in the US within the next day. No word on availability in other countries or regions yet. Last I checked, no update in Malaysia yet.

Best underdog of 2016

Introduced in mid-2016, the Axon 7 is ZTE’s finest smartphone yet. Clad in metal, it boasts a 5.5-inch 2K WQHD AMOLED display, and packs a powerful Snapdragon 820 processor. It packs 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage.

In my opinion, it’s one of the best underdog flagship devices of 2016. And it still holds its own amongst newer devices in 2017. ZTE’s software updates have also been timely, with the Axon 7 running Android 7.0 Nougat with support for Google Daydream.

In the optics department, it isn’t shabby either. On the back, it packs a 20MP primary shooter, with an 8MP front shooter for selfies.

Its claim to fame however, is its award-winning hi-fidelity audio performance. Its front-facing speakers are mind-blowing, with the audio experience tuned by Dolby Atmos.

It currently retails at MYR1,999.
