Xiaomi unleashes powerful Mi 6 flagship in China

Xiaomi has unveiled its latest flagship in Beijing today – the Mi 6. The sleek, glossy device comes powered by Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon 835 coupled with 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage.

The Mi flagship was always cutting edge, featuring breakthrough technologies whether in processing power, I/O or camera.

The Mi 6 is no different. It’s the first device in China to feature the powerful Snapdragon 835 processor. And second only to the Samsung Galaxy S8 globally.

As you may be aware, the Snapdragon 835 is based on the groundbreaking 10nm manufacturing process. It raises the bar in terms of compute and graphics performance, power efficiency and thermal performance. FYI, the latest Snapdragon blazes through AnTuTu benchmarks with a score of 184,292.

The octa-core Snapdragon 835 is the successor to the Snapdragon 821. Compared to the 821, the 835 consumers 25% less power, and is 35% smaller in size.

The Snapdragon 835 also brings with its Gigabit LTE, Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0 and powerful Adreno 540 GPU graphics (with Vulkan API).

Pushing performance further is 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM, and superfast 64GB or 128GB storage.

For the first time, Xiaomi is putting a dual-camera setup on one of its devices. The Mi 6 boasts an optical zoom dual-camera setup that delivers sharp shots of distance subjects; or bokehlicious portrait shots.

The new 12MP camera supports 2x optical zoom and up to 10x digital zoom. It comes with four-axis OIS and is capable of shooting 4K UHD video.

In terms of design, the Mi 6 continues to be a compact device, featuring a 5.15-inch Full HD display with reduced glare. What’s new on this display is its tweakable 4,096 levels of brightness. You can reduce brightness to as low as 0.15nit, something other displays cannot do due to a limited 256 levels of brightness. Also, it can filter out blue light while still keeping the screen less yellow, for a more natural look.

The Mi 6 sports a sleek look, integrating four-side 3D glass (and ceramic for the Ceramic edition) and a stainless steel frame. It instantly reminds me of the honor 8, and the HTC U. You might need to take out your microfiber cloth a little more often, but it’s a stunning look nonetheless. It comes in Black, White and Blue; as well as special edition Ceramic and Silver.

Keeping you running all day is a 3,350mAh battery that quick charges via USB Type-C (supports Quick Charge 3.0).

Pricing and availability

The Mi 6 6GB + 64GB version is priced at RMB2,499/MYR1,597, the 6GB + 128GB retails at RMB2,899/MYR1,852, while the Ceramic Edition is priced at MYR2,999/MYR1,916. and will be available starting 28 April on Mi.com and in all 72 Mi Home stores in China. It will hit global markets later.
