At CES 2017, Intel partnering New Balance launches the New Balance RunIQ smartwatch, powered by Intel. The smartwatch is made for runners by runners – with the ability to run, track and listen untethered.
RunIQ is a combination of a runner’s smartwatch and everyday accessory. It is powered by the Intel Atom Z34XX processor, and runs the familiar Android Wear.
It is equipped with a 1.39-inch AMOLED screen, 512MB of DRAM and 4GB of RAM. It packs a GPS, optical heart monitoring (HRM) sensor, accelerometer and gyroscope.
Key features include the ability to sync with STRAVA – where you can connect and share workouts with a global community of runners and athletes. The cool thing is that it can do this without a smartphone.
Naturally, being an Android Wear device, it can sync, store and listen to playlists downloaded from Google Play Music.
With a built-in GPS it can track course, pace and distance of your run.
The built-in heart rate monitor ensures you stay in your target zone and lets you monitor your heart rate in real time.
The device also has a one-tap LAP button so you can track run time and intervals easily.
Battery life is rated at 24 hours with typical use, or up to five hours of continuous life with GPS and hear rate monitoring.
It features interchangeable straps, and currently there are several straps available. More to come.
Languages supported include English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Korean and Japanese.
RunIQ is priced at US$299.99 and is available for pre-order starting today, 5 January 2017 at NewBalance.com.
