Adobe Sensei is mind-blowingly awesome, and it’s just getting started

The single, possibly the most important announcement at Adobe MAX 2016 is Adobe Sensei. The aptly-named ‘guru’ is a framework and set of intelligent services for improving design and delivery of digital experience. It harnesses machine learning, artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning capabilities. Available across the Adobe Cloud Platform – Creative Cloud, Adobe Document Cloud and Adobe Marketing Cloud, Adobe Sensei tackles experience challenges faced by creatives and customers by automating mundane tasks, driving predictive and personalisation capabilities; and let creatives do what they do best – create.

Adobe Sensei makes sense of Adobe’s massive volume of content and data assets (trillions, in case you were wondering) – from high resolution images in Creative Cloud, digital documents in Document Cloud; and data analytics in Marketing Cloud.

Some of Adobe Sensei’s intelligent services have already been deployed in Adobe products.

As example, in-built Adobe Sensei uses deep learning to search and tag images automatically. When you search for stock images in Adobe Stock for instance, it makes intelligent recommendations, matching colour, understanding context, etc.

In Face Aware Editing, Adobe Sense can find faces in an image, using “landmarks” like your eyebrows, lips and eyes to understand their position. This makes retouching easier e.g. changing skin tone, or changing facial expression without ruining the entire image.

A mind-blowing example showcases semantic segmentation. Each image region can be labeled with its type. E.g. When you’re editing an image, Adobe Sense knows what’s the sky or a building, or a person. Labeled regions allow you to easily make a selection and manipulate objects. Use simple commands like “change the sky.” Imagine that.

Moving on to more Marketing Cloud-specific features, there’s Intelligent Audience Segmentation which gives marketers and analysts new visibility into which segments are most important to their businesses.

Using unique algorithms, it can determine impact of marketing touch points on consumer decisions in brand engagement. This can help determine the effectiveness of campaigns, and ultimately help optimize marketing investment.

Adobe Sensei’s Natural Language Processing provides text understanding, topic modeling and sentiment analysis of digital documents.

Adobe has said it is opening up the new framework to its ecosystem of partners, ISVs and developers to further build new applications and solutions based on Adobe Sensei. Developers can tap into APIs available via Adobe.io.

Adobe Sensei is amazing, and it’s just getting started.
