At first glance, you might just ask, “hey is that a… Surface?” It’s a good guess, and the new Lenovo Miix 510 might as well be, if you slap on a Microsoft logo. In all fairness though, it’s Lenovo’s own take on it, right down to the watchband hinge you’ve seen on the flagship Yoga notebooks and delicious Yoga Book.
The snazzy new hybrid device is several steps up from earlier Miix models. It features the 6th Gen Core I processor, although this makes it not fanless like on the Miix 700. It packs 8GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD storage.
It weighs 880g without the bundled keyboard cover, and that’s 200g heftier than the Yoga Book. But it’s light enough to hold in a single hand.
Build quality is top notch, with an aluminum build that’s highly durable. Like the multi-angle hinge on the Surface, Miix 510’s hinge is its killer feature. The unique watchband hinge (not yet copied by competitors) is made up of 280 individual pieces of stainless steel. This gives you adjustability of up to 150 degrees.
It packs a bright and crisp 12.2-inch Full HD+ screen, and although the bezel is a little thick by today’s standards, it’s not a deal-breaker.
Unlike the Surface where the stylus and keyboard are optional purchases, the Miix 510 comes with both. The keyboard is a solid magnetic clip-on unit, with a leather-style exterior. The keyboard has optional backlighting and 1.5mm of key travel.
If jotting down notes and doodling is your thing, then the Active Pen will help you do that, precisely.
There’s Dolby-enabled stereo speakers built-in, a USB 3.0 port, a future-proof USB Type-C port, micro-SIM slot and audio jack.
