Microsoft Lumia 650 goes official, a budget Windows 10 smartphone for business

Lumia 650

Microsoft continues to expand its Lumia range, this time with a budget member – Lumia 650. The Windows 10 smartphone may be affordable, but yet boasts a premium design with a diamond-cut and anodized aluminum frame.

The polycarbonate body on the flagship Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL was disappointing for some, despite costing some major bucks. Strangely, the Lumia 650 comes across more polished with its metal frame. It’s also the thinnest Windows 10 smartphone in the market, at just 6.9mm.

In terms of hardware, it isn’t anything cutting edge as you’d expect from a budget smartphone. It sports an average 5-inch 720p HD OLED display, protected by Gorilla Glass 3. Under the hood, it gets a bottom-rung quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 mated to 1GB RAM and 16GB of on-board storage. There’s microSD expansion, so if you need more storage for those low-res photos, it’s expandable up to 200GB.

If photo-taking is your thing, then you’ll have the 8MP f/2.2 main shooter and 5MP wide-angle camera to play with.

The integrated battery rates 2,000mAh, which is a tad smaller than the lower-rung Lumia 550.

The budget business device works perfectly with Microsoft apps and services include Office 365, OneDrive and Cortana. Cortana, of course, isn’t officially available for Malaysia, yet.

The Lumia 650 plays nice with 4G LTE and is also available in a dual-SIM version.
