Celebrate your Malaysian-ness this Merdeka with UberMAKAN

UberMAKAN

Someone once said “Malaysia is food,” and that is by far the best one-line description of Malaysia one can get. Nothing unites us more than our daily does of nasi lemak, char kuay teow or roti canai. In conjunction with the upcoming Merdeka celebrations, Uber has launched UberMAKAN to celebrate our national pastime.

UberMAKAN kicks off today, Saturday 22 August 2015 from 11AM to 5PM.

So what’s this all about?

Uber will be driving you to hidden gems around the city – handpicked eateries that serve our Malaysian favourites. Hot on the list is laksa, banana leaf rice (yum!), char kuay teow and cendol.

Here’s how to make a request:

  1. Download the Uber app from the App Store or Play Store if you haven’t done so.
  2. Sign in to your account, then slide to ‘MAKAN’ option and tap ‘Set Pickup Location.’
  3. If there’s a MAKAN vehicle available near you, you’ll be picked up in minutes.
  4. Once you’ve been picked up, your driver will give you a list of options and you’ll be driven to the outlet of your choice.

Your Uber account will be charged RM15 – this includes the entire experience of being driven to the outlet as well as return journey. The price of the food is excluded of course.

UberMAKAN
Jom Makan!

But wait, that’s not all. Uber is partnering popular food bloggers to add an interesting twist to the event. Under the special ‘MAKANBuffet’ option in the Uber app, you will have a chance to be accompanied on your culinary adventure with selected ‘MAKAN guides.’ The guides will be happy to share their love for Malaysian food with you.

For the MAKANBuffet option, you and two of your firiends will be able to eat at these local makan gems and will only be charged a flat rate of RM58. Eat to your hearts’ content. The fee will be charged directly to your Uber app, so no cash payment is needed.

As with all Uber promos, this is going to be hot. Don’t be disappointed if UberMAKAN isn’t available immediately. Keep on trying!

Also be part of the #UberMAKAN community, share the experience on Twitter (@uber_my) and Instagram (@uber_my).

Happy MAKAN-ing!
