Shoplympics: Online selling made super easy

Shoplympics

Online shopping is a growing trend and yet it only accounts for less than 3% of total retail sales in Malaysia. This is expected to grow to 6.1% by 2020 (MCMC, 2014). The growing popularity of shopping and trading platforms like Lazada, Lelong.my, Mudah.my, eBay and more indicate that there’s plenty of room to grow, with a widely untapped market. Malaysia, after all, has a high broadband penetration rate.

On that note, a homegrown e-commerce platform — Shoplympics, quietly hit a milestone recently — helping over 1,000 entrepreneurs set up shop online.

Shoplympics was launched last September, a brainchild of Edwin Koh and likeminded team of budding entrepreneurs. Koh saw a growing trend amongst young entrepreneurs aged 18-25 who were setting up online businesses via Facebook and Instagram. The only problem with that: these are not proper e-commerce platforms. Koh found that people had a general perception that setting up a proper e-commerce store was expensive.

“Sell Simply, Shop Easy”

And thus, Shoplympics fills a void, becoming an enabler for budding online entrepreneurs. Shoplympics enables sellers to create an online store in 15 minutes, for free and in a few easy steps.

Keeping it simple, Shoplympics streamlines the buying process and buyer-seller communication by automating fundamental emails for notification.

Built from ground-up to be scalable and flexible, the platform is also constantly evolving. Upgrades and additional features are available at minimal cost, ranging from RM3 to RM50 to enhance business flow and shopping experience.

Some of the portal’s customer-centric features include online store activity tracking, auto migration of store templates and integrated payment gateway. Additionally, the store templates are beautifully designed by Korean designers. There are also easy to apply marketing tools for sellers to use.

With 1,000 online stores under its wings already, Shoplympics aims to become Asia’s number one online store builder. Native mobile apps for iOS and Android will be available by end of this year.

At the recent e27 Echelon Technology and Business Conference in Singapore, Shoplympics was recognised as Malaysia’s Top 100 Startups and awarded the People’s Choice Award. The startup will also represent Malaysia in the upcoming Echelon Asia Summit 2015 to be held in Singapore from 23-24 June 2015.
