Launched at MWC 2015, the Acer Liquid Jade Z has made an official appearance in Malaysia. Ultra-thin, ultra-light and affordable, the Liquid Jade Z also packs impressive f/1.8 camera optics on both front and back.

Back at CES 2015 in January, Acer announced the flagship Liquid Jade S and the new Liquid Jade Z looks to appeal to those with a smaller wallet.

The Liquid Jade Z does still resemble its more expensive sibling but the rear back panel has a textured plastic feel with chrome bits around the frame. Weight is a scant 110g and it measures just 7.95mm thin.

The new device packs a 5-inch HD IPS display with Zero Air Gap, pushing 294PPI, and protected by the venerable Gorilla Glass 3.

Unlike the international version seen at MWC 2015, the local version sports more RAM and storage — 2GB RAM and 16GB of storage with microSD expandability.

It gets a 64-bit quad-core 1.5GHz MediaTek MT6732 processor and runs Android 4.4 KitKat. Acer has revealed that Android 5.0 Lollipop will come to the device soon.

Impressively, the Liquid Jade Z sports a 13MP f/1.8 rear autofocus camera with LED flash, and a 5MP f/2.2 unit up front. The f/1.8 lens draws 20% more light which should translate to less noise and brighter pictures in low light situations.

There’s also a Bright Magic Selfie mode and a surround light for better, brighter selfies.

The Liquid Jade Z supports dual nano-SIM and 4G LTE connectivity.

The built-in battery is rated at 2,300mAh which is claimed to give you up to five hours of talktime and up to 400 hours of standby time.

If audio quality is important to you, then you’ll like the fact that audio is boosted with DTS Sound technology that supports 24-bit high-res audio playback.
