6 things I like about the Samsung GALAXY S6

Samsung GALAXY S6

The Samsung GALAXY S6 marks the biggest redesign in the flagship GALAXY portfolio since the GALAXY SII. The premium material build and design is a huge step forward from previous generation GALAXY S flagships. It’s delightful to see Samsung digging deep and re-imagining their next generation smartphones. Design isn’t just what makes the new GALAXY different or better, as its impressive hardware puts it at the top of the smartphone pedestal.

The curvy GALAXY S6 Edge is sexy too.

#1 Cutting-edge display

You have to hand it to Samsung, they do make the best displays. And the new super sharp, super vibrant 5.1-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display (2560×1440) pushing out an astonishing 577PPI, is remarkable. If you thought the display on the GALAXY S5 was good, well, like they say “You ain’t see nothing yet.” The GALAXY S5 tops up at 432PPI making it “very last year”, which it evidently is.

#2 Beautiful design

The new design language of the latest GALAXY exudes style and class with a blend of sturdy metal and glass. Honestly, it’s the best-looking GALAXY yet. There’s never been quite a GALAXY like the GALAXY S6, and it’s also the most premium, luxurious GALAXY ever. The metallic colours are enticing too, especially the green on the GALAXY S6 Edge.

#3 Powerful performance

The 64-bit octa-core Exynos 7420 processor built on Samsung’s cutting-edge, industry-leading 14nm manufacturing process brings unmatched performance, and simply blows everything out of the water. With 3GB of super fast LPDDR4 RAM and an all-new UFS 2.0 storage, the GALAXY S6 delivers performance, power efficiency and silky smooth multi-tasking. Coupled with Android 5.0 Lollipop, you’re getting the best of both hardware and software. Recent early benchmarks with AnTuTu revealed the S6 leading by a mile. Outstanding.

#4 Outstanding camera

The new 16MP f/1.9 main camera with OIS is fast, captures ultra high resolution photos and videos, and importantly, performs well even in tough, low-light conditions. Thanks to the large f/1.9 aperture, one of the largest I’ve seen on a smartphone if not the largest, means a two things — superfast capture and excellent low-light performance. From brief tests with the camera, I can say I’m mighty impressed. The best yet from Samsung.

The front camera isn’t too shabby either — a 5MP f/1.9 module that should ensure some pretty impressive selfies. And what’s great is that you can fire up the camera app within 0.7 seconds by double-clicking on the Home button. And that wide selfie mode, brilliant.

#5 Adaptive Fast Charging

The 2,550mAh non-removable battery will keep you running throughout the day, however, if you do get caught with low battery life, the GALAXY S6’s Adaptive Fast Charging technology will get you charged up in no time. How fast is fast? How about an additional 4 hours of use from just 10 minutes of charging. Or 100% charge in 80mins. Having tested this same technology on the Note Edge, I’m going to attest to its effectiveness. Seriously good.

#6 Wireless charging

Built-in to the big internal battery is the ability to charge wirelessly. The GALAXY S6’s wireless charging ability supports WPC & PMA charging standards. The future is wireless, and this is where it begins. Before long you’ll never charge with a cable ever again.

And there you have it, my favourite six things about the new Samsung GALAXY S6.
