Samsung Electronics today kicked off its Southeast Asia Forum 2015 in Bangkok, Thailand with focus on smarter living themed “Creating Possibilties. Shaping the Future.” Spearheading the lineup of impressive technology is the 88-inch SUHD TV, a chef-inspired “Chef Collection” of appliances and the new NX500 camera.

Samsung showcased its new 88-inch SUHD TV, which debuted at CES 2015 early this year. In addition, new audio solutions that deliver a premium sound experience were also one of the key highlights.

Bringing technology into the kitchen, Samsung worked with professional chefs to launch a new line of smart home appliances to give home cooks, cook better.

The Korean consumer electronics giant continues to make its mark in the consumer mirrorless camera segment with the new NX500 camera, inspired by the award-winning NX1 series.

SUHD TV raises the mark

Samsung’s new proprietary, eco-friendly nano crystal display technology powers its new SUHD TV range including the monolith 88-inch JS9500 TV. SUHD delivers superior picture quality, stunning contrast, striking brightness, spectacular colour and superb UHD detail.

SUHD is 2.5x more brightness than conventional UHD TVs and twice the colour adjustment points. SUHD TV’s nano-crystal produces the highest colour purity and light efficiency available today. This technology delivers 64x more colour expression than conventional TVs.

Undeniably, having the best hardware means nothing without optimised content. Samsung, therefore, has partnered 20th Century Fox to bring premium quality content to the SUHD platform. Recently, it partnered with Fox Innovation Lab to re-master Ang Lee’s award-winning film “Life of Pi” specifically for SUHD TV.

Samsung’s 2015 line of Smart TVs are powered by Tizen OS, its proprietary operating system, that’s robust and offers better connectivity. It is also an easier platform to develop applications for and will see a wider range of Smart TV content and services reach consumers.

The three series of SUHD TVs are JS9500, JS9000 and JS8500 — from 55- to 88-inches.

Premium audio

Samsung’s new state-of-the-art audio lab in California has been busy – rolling out the unique bulbous WAM7500/6500 omnidirectional speaker, delivering a 360-degree sound experience. The audio device uses Samsung’s proprietary ring radiator technology.

The new Curved Soundbar 8500 Series available in various sizes to complement the Samsung Curved TV range offers premium 9.1 channel audio. Available in sizes ranging from 48- to 78 inches, the Soundbar can connect wirelessly to the TV and can be used to stream music via mobile devices.

Premium home digital appliances

What’s technology if not to make life easier and more convenient? Samsung’s latest portfolio of home appliances bring innovation and outstanding design.

The new activ dualwash is the next generation washing machine that contains a built-in sink in the washer lid, to enable users to pre-treat their laundry before adding it to the main drum below. A simple but highly effective idea.

The Samsung Chef Collection is a premium range of kitchen appliances developed with Michelin-starred chefs. The range is tailor-made for the Southeast Asian market and features the Chef Collection refrigerator (RF9900). The refrigerator boats the largest capacity in the market and is equipped with Precise Chef Cooling that reduces temperature fluctuations within the range of 0.5 degrees Celsius. Additionally, the Triple Cooling System creates three separate airflows in the refrigerator and freezer.

Samsung NX500

Riding on the success of the NX1 camera, the new NX500 features the similar NX AF System III, best-in-class DRIMeV Image processor and the highest-resolution 28MP BSI APS-C sensor. The NX500 shoots 4K and UHD video and also delivers uncompromising image quality, even in low light.

The NX500 boasts Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, and is perfect for everyday use.

GALAXY A Series

Expanding the new A series portfolio further, Samsung unveiled the GALAXY A7, featuring a 5.5-inch HD display, octa-core processing power, a 5MP front-facing camera and 4G LTE Cat 4. The ultra slim metal unibody design is available in a range of colours.

Content, content, content

Contest is an essential part of owning a smart device. In Southeast Asia, 50% of users say that content influences their decision to buy a smartphone. Samsung has announced the availability of Milk Music for the Southeast Asia region. Milk Music is an online radio service that offers an intuitive way to discover and listen to music.

Milk Music has so far rolled out in Australia with 18 genres via 200 stations.

Milk Music complements Samsung’s exclusive suite of applications and services including Samsung Sports Flow, Circo (games), Kids Time, Seasons, Masterpieces and GALAXY Life.

GALAXY Life will expand to offer enhanced Customer Care, Gold Tier and Warranty. Gold Tier is expected to be available from April and will be free with flagship devices.

Smart MultiXpress multi-function printers

Targeted at businesses, the new Samsung Smart MultiXpress series of MFPs feature a 10.1-inch full touchscreen panel to offer the ability to search and print from web browsers, emails, maps, images and other content without a PC or server. It also allows users to preview, edit and annotate documents.

Reinforcing leadership in Southeast Asia

The annual two-day Southeast Asia Forum 2015 held at Impact Muang Thong Thani Convention Centre & Exhibition Hall in Bangkok, Thailand saw the attendance of some 2,000 delegates, partners and media from across nine countries in the region.

Closer to home, not everything that was announced or showcased at the forum will be heading to Malaysia. What we know for sure is that the new portfolio of SUHD TVs (not all SKUs), premium audio line-up, NX500 camera; selected washing machines, air-conditioning and refrigerators.

The full GALAXY A series of smartphones is already available in Malaysia.

What’s definitely not coming is the premium Chef Collection range of appliances.
