Aside from its online flash sales, rising smartphone brand Xiaomi has been rather quiet on the local front. A true-blue ecommerce-driven company, Xiaomi has enjoyed brisk sales and top-of-mind brand recall despite its limited physical presence. Things however, are about to change, for the better.

The China company has announced that it will open its first Exclusive Service Centre (ESC) at Low Yat Plaza, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Similar to what’s found in its home country, Xiaomi ESC’s have the sole purpose to provide service and support to Xiaomi customers, as well as provide a space for customers to experience Xiaomi products. It isn’t however, a sales point. For that, customers still need to purchase online at mi.com.

In Malaysia, Xiaomi currently has seven service centers across major cities in Petaling Jaya, Melaka, Ipoh, Pulau Pinang, Kuantan and Kota Bahru.

We will be meeting up with Xiaomi General Manager Steve Vickers next week to get an update on Xiaomi’s Malaysian-specific plans.

Currently, the three products available in Malaysia are the Mi 3, Redmi 1S and Redmi Note

Xiaomi said that it will also be taking wraps off a highly-anticipated new product that will be surfacing in Malaysia soon. The Mi 4 or the 4G LTE Redmi Note, finally?

Stay tuned for updates.
