Project Ara

Project Ara, Google’s modular device project, will get a further boost with the second iteration of its Project Ara Module Developers Conference to be held in Mountain View on 14 January 2015 and Singapore on 21 January 2015. Other satellite locations in New York, Buenos Aires, London, Bangalore, Tokyo, Taipei and Shanghai.

The full-day event will see Google share the latest developments on Project Ara, with project team members present at all event sites.

The principal focus of the upcoming developer event will be the next generation Module Developers Kit (MDK): version 0.20. Google is expected to demo the latest Ara prototype and developer hardware as well.

Spiral 2 is the prototype’s successor with Toshiba building custom chips to minimise the footprint.

If you’re interested to register for the event, you can do so online here. The registration fee is US$200 for Mountain View and Singapore and $50 for satellite locations, and US$25 for students.

Deadline for registration is 26 November 2014.

2015 is going to be mighty interesting once Project Ara’s $50 modular smartphone ambitions become a reality.
