iOS 8 is now available – give your device some new tricks

iOS 8

Apple calls it “the biggest release since the launch of the App Store…” It’s finally here – iOS 8. And it is a huge upgrade for owners of iDevices. The update is more or less 1GB in size and is available now over the air (OTA).

iOS 8 contains hundreds of new features including new Messages and Photos features, a new QuickType keyboard, Health app, support for third party keyboards like Swiftkey and Swype, Family Sharing, iCloud Drive and new camera features like Time-lapse mode.

There’s also third party support for Touch ID, Continuity and Handoff features which work with OS X Yosemite and much more.

iOS 8 compatibility

The update is available for iPhone (iPhone 4s and above), iPod Touch (5th Gen) and iPad (iPad 2 and above). For owners of the iPhone 4s and iPad 2, however, you may want to reconsider, as you may run into performance issues due to old hardware.

To see if you’ve been pushed the update, open your Settings app and select General, then Software Update. With the current internet crawl, it may take longer than expected to download.

Good luck, and tell me how your update went. Be sure to backup beforehand though.

I’m waiting a little before testing it out on my prehistoric iPad 2 (I know, it’s not recommended, but heck).
