Remembering MH17

Tomorrow (22 August 2014) will be the national day of mourning and a mark of respect for victims of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, as declared by Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek. Malaysians have been advised to stop whatever they are doing to observe the minute of silence that could happen at 10.30AM.

The minute of silence will of course, depend on the arrival of the special aircraft from Amsterdam, carrying the remains of the 20 victims. The victims will be accorded to military honours. The aircraft is expected to arrive at 9.45AM. A special ceremony will be held at the Bunga Raya Complex at KLIA, and will be attended by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak as well as other dignitaries.

Muslims are encouraged to recite the Al-Fatihah and non-Muslims to recite prayers according to their religious beliefs during the one minute of silence. Motorists are also urged to stop at the time as a mark of respect.

Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was shot down over Ukraine airspace on 17 July 2014.
