ComScore: iPhone is #1 in the US

According to a new report by research firm ComScore, the iPhone is the most popular smartphone in the U.S for May 2014. 169 million mobile users use smartphones, that’s 70% of overall mobile users.

Apple ranked top OEM smartphone maker with 41.9% of US smartphone subscribers with Samsung ranked a distant second with 27.8%. Trailing by a mile are LG (6.5%), Motorola (6.3%) and HTC (5.1%).

In terms of platform marketshare though, Android takes the lead with 52.1% in May, followed by Apple with 41.9%, Microsoft with 3.4%, BlackBerry with 2.3% and Symbian with 0.1%.

In terms of smartphone apps, Facebook led by a whopping margin, taking 76.4% of the app audience, followed by Google Play (51.8%), YouTube (51.7%) and Google Search (49.2%).
