[Unboxing] Gphone EVO: The true octa-core new kid on the block

GPhone EVO

GPhone EVO

Gphone Malaysia is a relatively unknown brand in Malaysia, producer of affordable mobile devices under the brand names of Gphone and Gpad. Established in Thailand, the company now has a growing portfolio of products sold in five countries across Asia. Several weeks ago, Gphone quietly released its most powerful phone to date – the Gphone EVO. In a close session with other selected media, I met up with Gphone and MediaTek representatives.

The Gphone EVO is a powerhouse, equipped with a 1.7Ghz true octa-core processor from MediaTek (MT6589). With a 5-inch HD IPS OGS display, 1GB RAM and 16GB of storage (expandable to 32GB via microSD), the Gphone EVO is also packed with a 13MP autofocus rear camera and 5MP front. The dual-SIM capable phone runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out-of-the-box, upgradeable to KitKat in the near future.

Pretty highly specced, for RM899 (SRP). The brand has yet to have proper online presence aside from their official Facebook page.

While you wait (won’t be long) for the first impressions of this device, enjoy the unboxing pics.
