Lenovo today officially launched its first 4G LTE smartphone in Malaysia – the Lenovo Vibe Z (K910), the successor to the ultra-thin flagship K900. As reported earlier, the super-thin, super-fast device will be available exclusively from Celcom first for a month, before it hits Lenovo Smartphone Retail Partners.

Techradar calls the Vibe Z “one of the biggest teases of CES 2014” and ThinkDigit says, “…one of the very few smartphones that is able to top the performance charts while offering unique design and handsome build quality.”

Like the K900, only better

The Vibe Z is as thin as smartphones come – measuring just 7.9mm, encased in a silver or titanium body and weighing just 147g. Its predecessor the K900 beats it marginally at 6.9mm.

The new flagship shares some of its underpinnings with the highly popular K900 – firstly, the same 5.5-inch Full HD (1080p @ 401PPI) IPS display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

The same impressive Sony-sourced IMX135 Exmor RS camera module rated at 13MP is used as the main shooter. The f/1.8 aperture lens is an excellent performer, and adept at low light situations. Lenovo also touts the 5MP front-facing camera with a 88-degree wide angle lens. High-resolution selfies, why don’t you.

At the heart of the new device is one of Qualcomm’s best – the Krait-class Snapdragon 800 2.2Ghz quad-core processor with Adreno 335 graphics. The powerful chip is almost standard feature in today’s crop of high-end flagship smartphones.

The Vibe Z packs a generous 2GB RAM and loaded with 16GB storage and runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. Lenovo is said to be working on a Android 4.4 KitKat OTA update. No timeline has been revealed.

LTE or bust

The Vibe Z’s 4G LTE radio supports 850/1800/2100Mhz bands and of course also includes 2G/3G/HSDPA+ support. The phone is a single-SIM device.

Battery life is rated at up to 33 hours of talk time, and 27 days of standby, thanks to its whopping non-removable 3,000mAh Li-Polymer battery.

Pricing and availability

The Vibe Z will be available nationwide exclusively from Celcom from 15 March 2014. Customers will receive a RM50 shopping voucher as a limited time offer. Celcom is offering the Vibe Z from as low as RM688, for the first 30 customers during its exclusive customer launch at Blue Cube @ Sunway Iconic on 15 March. With Celom First with mPro plan or mPro Plus, subscribers will get 5GB data and the Vibe Z for as low as RM988 on a 24-month contract.

The smartphone will be available at all Lenovo Smartphone Retail Partners a month later at a retail price of RM1,799 (SRP).
