New Google Maps

A new version of Google Maps is set to hit your desktop in the coming weeks, according to an official announcement by Google. A preview has been available since last May.

The new Google Maps will make it even easier to plan your next trip, check live traffic conditions (super important) and discover what’s happening in town. You could also seek Pegman’s help if you so wish.

The Smarter Search Box
The new release has much smarter search. Simply type “pasta, Bangsar” and Google will spit out results and snippets right on the map. You’ll also get more helpful information, reviews and ratings via the new info cards.

Google Maps offers new real-time traffic reports and Street View previews to help you find the most efficient route whether you’re travelling by car, bike, train or your sneaker-ed feet.

If you can remember, Google officially announced Street View for Malaysia back in August last year. While limited to 18 well-known sites in Malaysia, this is expected to grow over time.

Google Maps will also take you to notable landmarks in 3D and gives you sneak peaks of places you plan to visit. The new “runway” at the bottom of the map gives you access to this feature, at a click.

I tested the preview earlier, and found it pretty nifty. I really like the rich mini info cards and the awesome Street View.
