Samsung‘s cross-platform mobile messaging app, ChatON, now has its very own local television commercial. The unveiling was done at a special launch party at The Butter Factory KL last Friday, where Samsung also announced a partnership with Starbucks.

ChatON is Samsung’s own mobile communication service, introduced in 2011. The service now serves more than 200 countries worldwide in 62 languages. ChatON is available on Android, iOS, BlackBerry, Windows Phone, Windows Mobile and bada mobile platforms.

At the launch, Vincent Chong, Head of Mobile Phone Divistion, Samsung Malaysia Electronics said, “ChatON is all about celebrating friendships and creative expression. We have moved far beyond the times of one-dimensional text messaging into an era of content-sharing. Sending images, videos and voice messages are ingrained into the way consumers communicate these days. In view of that, Samsung constantly innovates to provide consumers with opportunities relevant to the changing times, and ChatON is testament to this.”

The fun-filled launch party saw guests entertained with dance performances by the ChatON dancers, ChatON-related games, a ChatON best dressed competition and the debut of Chatty, the official mascot for ChatON. Thanks to the partnership with Starbucks, when users add Starbucks as a Special Buddy in the ChatON app, they will be updated with the latest offers and news feeds from Starbucks.

ChatON has an enhanced group chat feature which allows up to 200 people in a single chat room. ChatON supports Anicons (animated emoticons) that come in a multitude of themes. As of May 2013, 127 sets of Anicon are available to download for free.

Users can also create their own animated messages with original drawings, texts and audio content through Animessage. Trunk, which acts like a storage bin, allows users to check all images and media files shared in chat rooms through a multimedia-sharing box for convenient browsing.
