As announced last week, Microsoft has released Office Mobile for iPhone, a free download from the Apple App Store. The caveat – you need to be an Office 365 Home Premium or Office 365 ProPlus subscriber. The free Office Mobile enables viewing and on-the-go content editing capabilities on the iPhone, just like its Windows Phone counterpart.
With a Office 365 account, Office Mobile for iPhone will let user access, view and edit Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents from anywhere. Microsoft claims that Office Mobile will keep all content and formatting intact so documents will look good on the PC or Mac.
Office Mobile for iPhone is optimised for the small screen and also designed from ground up for the cloud. With a Resume Reading feature, users are taken back to the exact point in a document where they left off on their computer so everything is consistent.
With Office Mobile, users can easily save and access Office content on SkyDrive or SkyDrive Pro. Users can also view and edit Office documents sent in email. There is also sharing built-in, making it easy for users to save directly to SkyDrive or send out as an email attachment.

Office Mobile for iPhone is a kick in the shin for Apple’s own iWork for iCloud beta productivity suite, which was recently previewed at the Worldwide Developers Conference in early June. Strangely, no iPad version has been announced yet.
Office Mobile for iPhone is a 58MB free download from the App Store and is compatible with the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (5th gen), iPad (3rd gen), iPad WiFi + 4G, iPad (4th gen), iPad WiFi + 3G (4th gen), iPad mini and iPad mini WiFi + 3G. Requires iOS 6.1 or later.
Microsoft also announced a recent milestone – its new Office suite had become the best-selling Office edition yet, with more than one sold every second on average since it was introduced. On top of that, Office 365 Home Premium attained more than 1 million subscribers in just over 100 days, outpacing some popular services.
Office 365 Home Premium is a subscription-based service model that includes 27GB of cloud storage with SkyDrive. It gives subscribers license of use for up to five PCs or Macs and on mobile devices. Users will also get 60 free Skype world calling minutes per month. Because its a subscription-based model, on-going product enhancements, features and service upgrades are free, as long as users are subscribed to the service.
