Kuala Lumpur, 20 May 2013 — Telekom Malaysia Berhad (“TM”) has introduced additions to its IPTV service – HyppTV Over Broadband and HyppTV Everywhere. Riding on its Streamyx high speed broadband and UniFi high speed broadband fibre networks, HyppTV will get a major boost with the availability of the service nationwide and across multiple platforms.

TM is currently conducting commercial trials for HyppTV Over Broadband involving its 1,000 Streamyx 8Mbps package subscribers. The two new services will be rolled out commercially to both UniFi and Streamyx customers in Q3 this year.

HyppTV Everywhere is a multi-screen offering that will enable UniFi customers the convenience of watching HyppTV on-the-go using smartphones, tablets, PCs or laptops.

TM will be making its HyppTV service available to its 4Mbps and 8Mbps Streamyx broadband customers, expanding the reach of the IPTV service to more viewers nationwide.

During the media preview session, Jeremy Kung, Executive Vice President, New Media, ™, said, “Once again breaking new grounds, we are excited to share that more Malaysian TV viewers will be able to enjoy HyppTV with the transmission of the service over TM’s extensive broadband network and on multiple platforms soon. This is the first time that we will be offering our HyppTV content in the form of an application on your devices – be it your smartphones, tablets, PC or Laptops. We are also expanding the reach to customers outside the UniFi coverage areas with HyppTV Over Broadband, so now more Malaysians can experience the exciting content and superb picture quality of HyppTV. These offerings are aimed at providing our customers with more convenience and flexibility for an enhanced service experience, making our HyppTV not just Primetime, Anytime, Everytime as per our tagline, but we are extending it Everywhere as well!“

HyppTV Everywhere features Live TV channels and VOD programming. HyppTV is currently offered to UniFi subscribers via its VIP packages, a triple-play offering that combines voice, video and data.

Last year, TM made HyppTV available for its BIZ30 and BIZ50 SME customers.

To date, HyppTV is Malaysia’s fastest growing IPTV service, bringing 112 channels with 28 channels in HD – comprising 25 free-to-air channels including 8 radio channels, 48 premium channels, 19 Video-On-Demand (VOD) genres and 20 interactive channels.

The global IPTV market is forecasted to increase the customer average revenue to US$106mil (RM323mil) in 2014. European countries are the biggest markets for IPTV while Asia is also increasingly embracing IPTV as penetration of broadband and average speed of broadband services increase.

TM’s HyppTV directly competes with the Maxis-Astro IPTV and Timedotcom-Astro IPTV services.
