Present at the signing were Lam Swee King, Group General Manager of New Media & Marketing, Media Prima; Paul Moss, Head of Platforms & Technology, Media Prima; Jimmy Tan, Business Director of SME and Wong Fatt Weng, Marketing Director of SME.
“With Samsung SMART TV, we are providing more than just innovative technologies and state-of-the-art features with a vast selection of content offerings for the benefit of our consumers. Our aim is to bring families and friends together, and as such we are proud to partner Alt Media in developing the Tonton TV application. This will provide a greater variety of movies and TV programmes to our customers, so they can enjoy exceptional image quality with their loved ones,” said Kwon Jae Hoon, Managing Director, Samsung Malaysia Electronics.
The collaboration will bring an exclusive Tonton application for SMART TV which will provide catch-up TV service for content aired on TV channels, online portals and radio stations within the conglomerate including TV3, ntv7, 8TV, TV9, Gua TV, Fly TV, Hot TV, One TV and many more. TV content will be uploaded to Tonton’s system within two hours after the programs are aired on TV.
The innovative app is currently in development and is expected to be ready in December this year. No cost of development figures have been disclosed.
Launched just two years ago, Tonton TV is currently the largest online TV platform in Malaysia with over 2.3 million registered subscribers. Tonton TV is free for general viewing but also offers premium content.
The Samsung SMART TV has transformed how we watch and interact with the ‘idiot’ box. Only now it isn’t a mere idiot box but a smart device with a multitude of rich features, content and interactivity. This shift is seeing tremendous growth. Jimmy Tan, Samsung Malaysia Business Director said today, that sales of SMART TVs account for over 30% of overall TV sales for Samsung.
Samsung is the current leader in SMART TVs in Malaysia, holding some 35-40% market share.
With Tonton TV, now Samsung SMART TV users can enjoy even more premium content on their boxes in the comfort of their own homes, and never miss their favourite TV programs.
