Blizzard Exploring F2P Option for Starcraft 2
Dustin Browder, Lead Designer of Starcraft 2 mentioned a shocking statement that, Blizzard is currently looking at an F2P option for the Starcraft 2′s competitive multiplayer mode.
“We don’t know how we would monetize it,” he said to the Valencia eSports Congress panel. “While it might be good fun for me to play against someone with only half the units available to them, that’s not going to be an enjoyable experience for them.”
Author’s two cents: For the community this is actually a good thing, F2P makes the game more accessible, hence the chance of more players. However, what I dislike about F2P is how contradicting it actually is: “You are paying for something that is called Free-to-Play.”
