Can’t say we haven’t been expecting an official announcement. Apple has just made public that it has sold over five million iPhone 5s, just three days after its launch on September 12. The fastest selling iPhone yet.

Within the first 24 hours of its launch, Apple received over 2 million pre-bookings. While naysayers scoffed at the new Apple offering and others called it ‘boring’, Apple is scrambling to meet supply.

Apple has already sold out its initial supply, but it is understood that stores are receiving regular shipments to meet demand.

Online orders are also being fulfilled although delivery dates have been pushed back to about a month.

Apple also announced that  more than 100 million iOS devices have been updated with iOS 6, the world’s most advanced mobile operating system.

iPhone 5 is available in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and the UK, and will be available in 22 more countries on September 28 and more than 100 countries by the end of the year.

iPhone 5 is the thinnest and lightest iPhone ever, completely redesigned to feature a stunning new 4-inch Retina, display; an Apple-designed blazing fast A6 chip and LTE. iPhone 5 comes in either white & silver or black & slate, and is available in the US for a suggested retail price of $199 (US) for the 16GB model and $299 (US) for the 32GB model and $399 (US) for the 64GB model. iPhone 5 is also available from the Apple Online Store.

Already, analysts are predicting Apple to sell over 100 million iPhone 5s within the year. And Apple’s laughing all the way to the bank.

Not bad for a ‘boring’ device, eh?
