Kuala Lumpur, 20 June 2012 – APAC Venture Sdn Bhd, gave us a treat today at Zouk Club, Kuala Lumpur. Over 200 bloggers, journalists, media and guests were treated to a free flow of drinks, food and entertainment throughout the night. The night had its purpose though and it was there, APAC announced and launched AVAST‘s new and improved version 7 and also announced their collaboration with China’s largest internet service provider Tencent, launching their new social app WeChat in Malaysia.
If you’re a big security nut or at least know your way around when it comes to PC security, AVAST shouldn’t be a new name to you. AVAST version 7, promises compatibility with Windows 8, speed and memory usage optimizations, export/import of product settings, enhanced GUI, sandbox privacy protection, improved repair functions, and stronger self-defense mechanism among other new features such as remote assistance tools, FileRep which identifies commonly malicious files on the fly, WebRep which identifies webthreats and fake SSLs and a new and improved AutoSandbox - automatically placing suspicious programs inside the avast! Sandbox. If it does what it says, it will probably give all paid and free anti-virus software companies out there a run for their money.
You’ve also probably heard of Tencent, creators of QQ, a free-instant messaging program which is considerably popular in China. Tencent originally launched its social messaging app as WeiXin but was recently re-branded as WeChat for international audiences. What’s amazing about this app is its adaptability or rather, accessibility, available in almost every platform and operating system, only leaving out BlackBerry.
It currently supports English, Traditional/Simplified Chinese, Indonesian, Portuguese, Thai, and Vietnamese on iOS, Android, Symbian, and Windows. WeChat bolsters multimedia communication flexibility and convenience with text messaging, hold-to-talk voice messaging, broadcast (one-to-many) messaging, photo/video sharing, location sharing, and contact information exchange. It also offers enhanced one-on-one and group chat sessions with an extensive range of animated and custom emoticon and emoji art, customizable backgrounds, and a Rock-Paper-Scissors mini-game. On top of that, WeChat encourages creative expression by allowing the user to apply artistic filters to photos, populate captioned photos into a personal photo journal, and distribute photos to friends. You could easily say its a merge between Talkbox, Path and WhatsApp with more features! By the way, its FREE!
So if you have the time, check them both out!
