At an exclusive media preview session in Singapore, Sony Mobile showcased six latest Xperia smartphones for the first time in Southeast Asia – Xperia ion, Xperia go, Xperia acro S, Xperia neo L, Xperia miro and the Xperia tipo. Held at the Art Palates, Singapore, over 30 members of the media from Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia got the opportunity to go hands-on with the new Xperia range.
While its easier to decipher the previous Xperia family which was the Xperia U, Xperia P, Xperia S and the Xperia sola, the new offerings blur the lines between premium, mid-range and entry level. It is clear that the diversity is driven by different wants and the increasingly demanding needs of the mobile customer today.
On the upper shelf is the Xperia ion, the largest of the Xperia series with a stunning 4.6″ screen with two HD cameras. It features an incredibly fast 12MP camera which takes the camera from sleep to capture in a little over a second from a single key press. The Xperia ion is powered by a zippy 1.5Ghz dual-core processor, offer 16GB storage space and runs Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
The Xperia ion which was first revealed for the US market at the International CES 2012 in January is to be made available in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore in Q3 2012.
The Xperia go is the epitome of durability and ruggedness without losing sex appeal. The 3.5″ display is adequately bright and clear, thanks to the Reality Display by Mobile BRAVIA engine. It comes bundled with a fast 5MP camera and offers dust, scratch and water-resistance with a IP67 rating. Its powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread, but fret not, will be upgradeable to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich later.
Xperia acro S
The Xperia acro S oozes sex appeal and boasts a 4.3” HD Reality Display for razor sharp clarity, full HD video recording, HD video chat, and easy HDMI TV connectivity. It’s also NFC enabled and can easily open applications with one touch against an Xperia SmartTag. One my favourite phones previewed at the event, the Xperia acro S features a superfast 12MP camera, is PlayStation-certified, scratch, water and dust resistant. A fast 1.5Ghz dual-core processor with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich almost guarantees great performance out of the box. The Xperia acro S will be available in Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore from Q3, 2012.
Xperia neo L
The Xperia neo L builds on the sleek and stylish design of Xperia neo, incorporating the curved back and glossy finish. It sports a 4″ display, front facing camera with 5MP back HD camera and also incorporates Sony’s xLoud technology. Powered by a 1Ghz processor with Adreno 205 graphics processor and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The Xperia neo L which was first revealed for the Chinese market in March this year is slated to launch in early Q3 for Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.
The Xperia miro is a fun, slim and stylish offering with deep integration of Facebook plus Sony’s xLOUD audio technology for superior sound. The Xperia miro is available in a selection of colours. With a 3.5″ display, 5MP camera and powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the Xperia miro is great for those socially-inclined. Available in Q3 in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.
The Xperia tipo offers a simple and easy-to-use smartphone experience, targeted at first-time smartphone buyers.
